People should be more afraid of everything that are not visible in the water!  When will Thailand start to measure and announce the level of e-coli bacterias in the beach water?

Convince the locals it's edible, it'll be gone by morning.

Krabi is a province not an island. Never heard that it has a reputation for being unsafe. In fact other than Ao Nang it seems to be one of the cleanest and friendly places around to visit, with so many things to do. Hot springs, crystal clear fresh water areas, mangrove swamps, beaches, rock climbing are just a few fun activities.

But I've heard people from northern Thailand refer to their brethren in the south as "black-hearted southerners."

Might be confusing it with Koh Tao.

I'd never go in the water anywhere near Ao Nang. Probably as polluted as Pattaya bay.

I passed through Ao Nang many times on the way to Railay 20 years ago and it's probably much worse now.

It is and Raillay has had a change for the worse as well. Simply too built up now.

You see them and avoid them. Most Thai beaches are like that sadly. Can see it could be a problem for those that have no idea about Thai strays.

Nearby Krabi rivermouth as well as water currents that are not as consistent and active as the Andaman facing coast across the bay, make the ocean water in Ao Nang typically murky. Little seaweed? Over it.

Wait for the winds to switch, then there is some fun!

Yeah. The sea water off Ao Nang was murky even in the 90s.

Not the best reputation for tourists safety ????

Perhaps you confuse with Koh Tao which is nowhere near.

My apologies... next unread thread that came up is of some resort boss being murdered on Krabi!!!!
