The Faculty of Medical Technology at Khon Kaen University has recently developed the third version of its pressure relief bed for patients with pressure sores.

Professor Dr. Wichai Eungpinichpong of the faculty said that the outstanding feature of this latest version is that its mattress can spread pressure more evenly, which will help relieve the pressure sores often suffered by bed-ridden patients.

The construction cost is estimated at about 10,000 bath each, which will be affordable for many elderly people, said Dr. Wichai, adding that the faculty is ready to share its knowhow with local communities so they can make the beds themselves.

Sheer genius.

When asked by a doctor if she had ever been bedridden a geriatric patient screeched "Yeah, and table-topped!"

Put me on a flat bed so I can roll onto my side.  That thing looks like a torture device to where you'd be stuck on your back.

Good sheep skins are probaly better to reduce bed sores. They can be washed and would be much cheaper and easier to transport.

I sleep on an air mattress with an electric air pump that can be inflated to the desired pressure. I remember visiting my Japanese mentor who was bedridden after a serious stroke. He also had an air mattress with an adjustable frame so that he could be sat up for meals. There are also foam mattresses that conform to body shape and sleeping position, although these may be hotter than air mattresses.
