snoop1130
File photo Officials in Prachuap Khiri Khan province have announced a crackdown on uninsured drivers following a number of accidents during the Songkran festival. On Tuesday (April 18), officials said they recorded 47 accidents, 49 injuries and 3 deaths during the seven day road safety campaign of Songkran, between April 11-17. According to Mr. Detcha Rueng-on, the head of the Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, two of the three people who died in accidents during the festival were uninsured. This means that they were not covered by the mandatory insurance required by the 1992 Motor Vehicle Act, which is intended to protect accident victims. hotchilli
Easy thing to remedy. Introduce an annual vehicle test for road-worthiness. #1 At the road-worthiness test a valid tax disc must be displayed and proof of insurance. #2 When applying for a tax disc a valid vehicle test certificate and insurance certificate must be provided. #3 When applying for insurance a vehicle test certificate and valid tax disc must be provided. Without one you cannot get the other two.. Drive with nothing it's an automatic 5 year ban.

PETERTHEEATER
In simple terms, this mean the 'uninsured', were riding in a vehicle which did not have a current road tax sticker. Payment of the annual road tax has to be supported by an insurance reciept available through agents at the vehicle tax issuing office. The insurance ensures medical aid to the vehicle pax but is limited. The insurance covers only people NOT vehicle damage. Many expat vehicle owners opt to get First Class cover policies which cover their vehicle, pax and third parties.

Jumbo1968
Are they going to include motor bikes, I don’t think many are insured or the rider has even passed a test.
