150 Thai nationals living in Sudan have been evacuated to Saudi Arabia and are due  to return to Thailand, after being approved for evacuation by the prime minister and national security council secretary general. 


With fighting around the airport which is closed, the group had to take a 10-hour bus trip from Khartoum to a Sudanese port on the Red Sea, then a boat to Jeddah, and a bus to the capital Riyadh. They are scheduled to be flown back to Thailand later today.

 

Doctors, academics, and civil groups published their seventh open letter opposing the government's cannabis legalization. They urged the public to reconsider voting for political parties who endorse the legalisation of  cannabis. 


The groups claim Cannabis consumption last year resulted in more accidents and adverse health reactions.

Tourists had to leave 'Bang Sean' beach yesterday due to an oil spill. Residents suspect it was caused by a cargo ship. Local authorities cleaned up 2 km of shoreline, but much oil still remained in the water and on the beach, keeping people away from the water.

 

The Waterworks Authority announced it may raise water rates due to a 15 to 20% percent  increase in electricity costs. The head of the authority is studying a new tariff structure because the current rate cannot be maintained. The agency plans to request a price hike after keeping the current rate for a decade.

Singapore and China will hold a joint military exercise between the 28th April and 1st of May, their first combined drills since 2021.        

 

A statement said Singapore’s Navy conducts regular bilateral and multilateral exercises with foreign navies as part of its ongoing effort to enhance mutual trust and cooperation with other countries.


Indonesia. A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck west of Indonesia's Sumatra Island early this morning triggering a tsunami warning for around two hours prompting residents to move away from the shore. Several aftershocks followed, there are no reports of injury.
