People living in Bangkok and the rest of the country, with the exception of the south, are advised to brace for thunder storms, strong winds, hail and possible lightning strikes today (Thursday), as a result of summer storms, according to the Meteorological Department.

Places to be avoided are open fields, under big trees or unstable bill boards, said the department, as it advised people in these areas not to wear metallic ornaments or use their cell phones during thunder storms. Farmers are also advised to take extra care of their animals and to take measures to protect their crops.

Northern provinces expected to see summer storms today include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanuloke and Phetchabun.
