The Election Commission will spend a week considering an 11-billion baht subsidy for household electricity bills proposed by the deputy prime minister. The plan was approved on April 25th then rejected on Sunday, and is now being reviewed again. The subsidy, if approved, would run for four months until August and be applicable only to households consuming less than 300 units of electricity per month.

 

Thaksin daughter and political candidate Petongtarn gave birth to a baby boy Yesterday, her first child, prompting former prime minister Taksin to announce he would soon return to Thailand. Ousted in a 2006 coup, Thaksin was sentenced to 10 years in absentia under four separate lawsuits alleging misconduct during his premiership.

 

The mother of a woman who died in Bangkok seven years ago and is suspected to be the 15th cyanide-poisoning victim of the woman nicknamed "Am Cyanide", met with senior police officers yesterday. Police General Surachate accepted her daughter's case for investigation.

Malaysia
Three crew members of a Gabon-registered tanker ship were reported missing after the vessel caught fire yesterday in waters off Malaysia's southern coast. The tanker was on route from China to Singapore with 28 crew members on board, 25 were rescued.


Chinese billionaire Jack Ma yesterday took up a visiting professor position at a Japanese university,  Tokyo College, said Mr Ma would “share his rich experience and pioneering knowledge on entrepreneurship, corporate management and innovation” in seminars for students and staff.
