On May 3, Pol. Lt. Col. Tatchasak Jiratikulchai, an inspector at the Pattaya City Police Station's Khong Dong Tan branch in Chonburi province, was informed of an armed robbery at a Chinese tourist's residence in Pattaya Muang Mai Village, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.

Upon receiving the report, Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothi, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, directed an investigative team, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Surachet Aneksri and Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansi, both deputy superintendents of the Royal Thai Police, to examine the case, reported Daily News.

The victims, three Chinese tourists named Wang Zhijun, 35, Lin Xuerui, 27, and Gu Junjie, 37, were understandably shaken. The investigation revealed signs of a struggle and stolen property at the scene.

The criminals had made off with 170,000 baht in cash, four mobile phones, an iPad, three wristwatches, a gold ring, and a black Honda City sedan with the registration number 1,5932, Bangkok. Moreover, they had transferred 207,400 baht from Wang Zhijun's bank account and removed the CCTV image server.

Initially, the police collected evidence and searched for fingerprints at various points in the crime scene. The victims reported that three masked men, speaking Thai, had entered their home before dawn, brandishing firearms and using wires to bind them.

The assailants threatened the victims and forcefully took their belongings, spending roughly 15 minutes in the home before fleeing.

The culprits used a black Ford pickup truck and a stolen sedan, leaving the village and turning left onto Jomtien Second Road. The investigative team is currently using CCTV footage from the escape route to track down the criminals.

Subsequently, Pattaya City Police launched a citywide manhunt for the gang responsible for the robbery. They even traced the GPS signal of the victim's car to a remote forested area along Nong Ta Un Road, Huai Saphan, Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.

At another location, a black Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck with removed license plates was discovered at house number 335/3, Moo 1, Khao Mai Kaew Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District.

The registration number was Yor 1656, Chonburi, and it is believed to be the vehicle used in the crime. Forensic investigators from Police Forensics District 2 in Chonburi province were called to the scene to examine hidden fingerprints from the pickup truck as evidence.

No security at the gate?

'The investigative team is currently using CCTV footage from the escape route to track down the criminals.'  I knew there was a use for all those underused cameras dotted all over town.
