Hi,

Forgive me for starting a new topic on this, but I have a different question. It refers to my earlier post “Non B Visa Cancelled By School”.

I have/had a 60 day with 30 day extension tourist visa and started teaching, but only stayed one month. During that period the school got me a Non B Visa, my tourist is still there and nothing has been written on it. They then started to apply for the work permit, but have now obviously stopped. I left last week.

The school wants to cancel my Non B, which I paid 2,000 baht for and is valid until September. I spoke to immigration and they told me that I needed a letter from the school to confirm I no longer work there to cancel this.

My question is, what if I ignore the schools request to cancel this? They need my passport to do this. If I lose my Non B, I will lose 2,000 baht plus my tourist visa (I think, but as said nothing has been written it).

So if I ignore the school and stay in Thailand until September without teaching at another school on this Visa, am I breaking the law?

My reason for asking this is that I paid for the Non B, but yes it was got with proof of working at the school.

Thanks

If you are still on the time of the original visa, then I do not see how the school can cancel it.

If your visa has been extended, based on a work permit, then the usual practice is for Immigration

to reduce the extension once the work permit is cancelled.

The norm appears to be 7 days to allow you to pack and leave.

I am not sure if you will be breaking the law if you ignore the school, but you will be in a "grey" area

and could be in trouble if anyone investigated, or the school brought it to the attention of immigration.

To be safe it is probably best to do a visa run to Penang and get a tourist visa to cover your time until September.

If you can get a new job immediatley, then there is no need for the visa to be amended in any way.
