The Thai Meteorological Department warns of thundershowers, gusty winds, heavy rain, and floods in Thailand.

In upper Thailand, the department warns of a tropical storm that could bring thundershowers and gusty winds until Monday (May 15).

In addition, heavy rains, hailstorms and lightning are forecast in some areas during this period. People living in upper Thailand have been advised to stay away from large trees and unsecured billboards, while farmers have been told to prepare for crop and livestock damage. Travellers have also been urged to avoid wearing metal accessories and using smartphones in thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the department has also forecast isolated thundershowers and heavy rain in South Thailand until Monday. Thundershowers in the Andaman Sea could cause waves to rise up to 2 metres high, or even higher. People in the south have been warned to beware of flash floods and runoffs due to heavy rain.

Cyclone Mocha will bring rain to Thailand until Monday

Cyclone Mocha will not directly hit Thailand after it makes landfall in Myanmar this Sunday, but it will bring rain from today through Monday, with isolated heavy downfalls in some areas, according to the Thai Meteorological Department today (Friday).

It has advised small vessels in the Andaman Sea to remain ashore from tomorrow until Tuesday, due to rough seas with waves of 2-3 metres.

47 provinces across Thailand, except in the south, are forecast to see continuous rain today, due to the southerly and south-easterly winds which are blowing through northern Thailand.

Hopefully this is a sign of the start of the monsoons.  It has been really dry in our neck of Northern Thailand and we can use the water even if it comes in deluges.  Gotta refill the reservoirs before rice planting.  They are going to be putting rice in late this year.

Looks like Cyclone Mocha is turning away
