BANGKOK (NNT) - In an initiative to support the expanding EV industry in Southeast Asia, Thailand has joined forces with five technology and electric vehicle (EV) organizations in ASEAN to jointly study and develop EV battery technology.

According to Pimpa Limthongkul, president of the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (Testa), a memorandum of understanding on battery development has been signed by Testa and five partners at the first Asean Battery and Electric Vehicle Technology Conference in Bali, Indonesia. The five partners that signed the MoU with Testa include the Singapore Battery Consortium, the National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology of Indonesia, the National Battery Research Institute of Indonesia, NanoMalaysia Berhad, and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines.

Pimpa said the MoU signifies the beginning of regional cooperation that will move forward together in the expanding EV industry. These organizations will collaborate in the joint development and promotion of the ASEAN battery ecosystem. Various events will be held to expand opportunities, as well as joint research will be made to advance developments in EV technology, safety, standards, and related fields.

Officials said the cooperation is expected to bring various companies in the EV and battery industries together to further promote EVs in the region. It would also support ASEAN’s economy under the concept of sustainable development.
