Will I Be Allowed To Attend The Birth?

Featured Replies

I know that quite a few TV members have children born in LOS. We are due a baby next month and was just wondering what the policy was regarding dads being present at the delivery. I have asked at the local hospital but all I seem to get is a noncommited 'urr'. We live out in the bunnies will that make a difference? What about a cesarian, will I be allowed to attend this?

Last question, will I be allowed to take a camera into the delivery suite?

BTW, I trained as a nurse and I got to see a few births and cesarians so I'm not going to faint or anything :o .

It would depend on the hospital.

Our daughter was born 2 weeks ago in Phuket.

The hospital staff asked if i would like to be present for the birth (C Section).

The provided a seat for me to sit by my wife, and the english speaking staff kept me well informed.

All things considered, i found the hospital to be very accomodating to the father in the whole proceeding.

Best wishes for the upcoming event...

Perhaps if you are very clear from meetings before that you would like to be inside.

I got to hold my son first several days later, after paying at checkout. No dads was allowed into the feeding area for instance...(Yes, I tried).

Thanks guys for your responses.

I have mentioned already that I would like to be present so hopefully it will be OK.

It also depends on the particular doctor. Some doctors don't like it. I know I wouldn't want to have people touring through if I were performing a major surgery.

:o

When our daughter arrived, it was suggested that I wait outside for the duration of the birth. Not that I was complaining, it was a "C" section & I can't stand the sight of blood. :o

Soundman.

:o From your last line I'll take it you won't faint.

Many years ago, when my brothers first daughter was born, he wanted to be present during the birth. My brother is a hunter, and would think nothing of gutting and butchering a deer if needed. He's done it many times. So everyone was expecting him to go thru the birth with no problems.

So what happened....as soon as the birth started...my brother fainted dead away. The nursing staff had one person appointed as "watching father monitor", so they caught him as he was going down.

Took him many years until his wife let him get over that.

:D

I think it will largely depend if it's a government hospital or not. My son was born in a govt. hospital, and I was told I could not attend the birth. My second child was born in a private hospital, and it was no problem at all.

Do whatever you can to get in - it's a moment you will savour for years. Good luck with the birth.

I think it will be a government hospital as where we live is very remote. I will do all I can though to be allowed to attend.
