May 14, 20233 yr If possible I like to avoid wood because of possible problems with termites. I found Plastwood, which sees to be an interesting product. https://www.thaiplastwood.com/plastwood-sheet/ But I don't find information outside of Thailand about this product. Is it only used in Thailand? Does it have another name outside of Thailand? I think about using it in places where I normally would use wood. I won't use it anywhere where it is visible. Do you use it? Any good or bad experience?

Otherwise known as PVC https://www.lowes.com/pl/PVC-trim-boards-Lumber-composites-Building-supplies/2820601687039 Yes I have used it as carcass material in my en-suite It is a suitable material if there is a chance of water spillage. It’s quite a bit softer than other sheet material, as you can see from the shelf deflection, you can use regular pipe glue for some low stress joints like this one
May 14, 20233 yr OMF ... They are manufactured plastic sheets , I could only see white color, not sure of any other colors and I wouldn't want a house made of plastic. I'd think i'd prefer Shera-board

I'd think i'd prefer Shera-board AFIK you can have any colour you like as long as it is white (compliments to Ford). The surface is not suitable for paint as it is so slick. It is (in my opinion) not a material for houses other than trim or American style siding. I also would not use Shera-board for anything other than ceilings & PVC boards could be used in the same locations. Edited May 14, 20233 yr by sometimewoodworker

Unfortunately this has been bastardised to VYnil instead of VINyl. Would MDF or HDF not be suitable? My skirtings and architraves are made of HDF and are so hard, it's difficult to drill into.

Do termites like MDF or HDF? As far as I know they like it less than other types of wood. But I am not so sure they don't like it at all. In my condominium are lots of termites. In my newly renovated apartment they don't exist - at least until now. I don't want to invite them...

They also like the plasterboard (sheet-rock) ceilings. ... and the plastic laminate fake wood flooring, they ate that too. Wood effect aluminium skirting now, they can't eat that. No they are not better unless you want a termite colony, and if you are having problems drilling into it you need better drill bits. Edited May 14, 20233 yr by sometimewoodworker
May 14, 20233 yr If you need sheet material you could look at Viva Board. It's a compressed woodchip with cement. Termites don't eat it, it's waterproof, and can be cut with a saw, hold a screw (with pre-drilled holes). Comes in several thicknesses.
