DPM Wissanu addresses Pita’s media share ownership

BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam has addressed claims made against Prime Ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat’s alleged share ownership in a media firm, which could potentially render him ineligible to become the next Prime Minister. The DPM said the possibility of by-elections would depend on the technicality of these claims.

The topic has sparked concerns about whether by-elections would be required should Mr. Pita become disqualified from his Prime Ministerial candidacy and MP position.

Petitions have been submitted to the Election Commission (EC) to look into Mr. Pita’s ownership of shares in the firm that ran the now-defunct TV station iTV, with many expecting the EC to further forward these claims to the Constitutional Court for its ruling. Mr. Pita is the leader of Move Forward Party (MFP).

Mr. Wissanu has elaborated that MPs-elect from MFP could also be disqualified should the petitions mention Mr. Pita’s endorsement of party members and MP candidates, resulting in by-elections.

He said the claims themselves would still allow Mr. Pita to become Prime Minister, should these claims only seek a ruling on Mr. Pita’s eligibility as MP, while Mr. Pita could potentially still become the next Prime Minister, should these claims were made specifically on Mr. Pita’s eligibility as PM candidate, as the law does not require PMs to be selected among parliamentary members.

Mr. Pita himself said MFP has prepared responses for several scenarios, adding that there is still enough time to clarify these matters.

Losers making a mountain, out of a molehill. Whether it is legal or not, it is just clutching for straws, by lowly losers, desperately seeking a way to cling to power and perceived glory. And of course the enormous, illicit fortune that comes with it. That is just how Cha Cha, the army, and their boys roll. That is who and what they are. Banish the dinosaurs, and make sure they never, ever ascend to power again. Do whatever that takes.

The majority of the Thai people want a new government and voted accordingly. The old country leadership has in fact been voted out, but they have difficulties in understanding and accepting this democratic process. On the contrary. Now all sorts of tricks are being used to sabotage the will of the majority of the population.

EC should be sacked (and probably jailed)- If he is ineligible why did they let him stand in the first place?  - If they are not checking the qualifications and eligibility of MPs prior to an election they are guilty of gross negligence. Have they checked the qualification and eligibility of all other MPs' before the election or not? If not why not?

I mean Pita has been a sitting MP in parliment since the 2019 and the EC and (now) opposition MPs never once questioned his eligibility in the previous 4 years. He has had these 'shares' in a now defunct company (its now Thai PBS not iTV which is the 'dead' media company), which disappeared and was wound up back in 2006/7.

They certainly do understand what democracy is about and want no part of it. Their wish is to take Thailand back to pre-1932.

A veiled post commenting on the Monarchy has been removed.

Ah, Phalang Pracharat's Legal Eagle. He legalized the coup, he had a hand in drafting the constitution articles that provided amnesty to the coup makers, he advised Prawit on evading corruption charges in his watch scandal, he argued legalities on behalf of the convicted heroin dealer/Cabinet Minister. He is a behind-the-scenes facilitator, Loophole Wissanu.

Im sure that a member of the incumbent government can be trusted to make unbiased decisons that could seem them replaced.

A little bit. He only interprets his self-written laws in his benevolent sense.

After what happened to Thanatorn  , one should think that the media share ownership issue was already examined closely by the MFP before Pita  was chosen to become PM ...

Seems pretty obvious that "holding" shares in a defunct company that has no value should not be an excuse by losers in the general election to hold by-elections or to ban the party. Corrupt Thai politics and politicians up to no good as usual.

How about looking into his finances and where he got all his money from oh no we can't do that what a joke

Oh for heavens sake , about time they hired somebody to dig for dirt on all members of the current administration.

Not that it would do any good. Any misdemeanors would be judged by those placed in power as non applicable for some reason or other.

The nature of politicians. It's what they do.

Most certainly reflects the nature of oligarchical types.

Indeed.

When all concerned are loyal cult members, surely it might be almost impossible to suss out a fair, impartial and independent inquiry regarding such matters. The fix is in.....and we should've suspected that they [The Junta Cult and associated] will dig up anything of such trivial and non-criminal matters and twist it out of proportion - and make it stick. They have all the cards.

Wondering if the good Thai people will put up with it or understand that the curtain, and those behind it, needs to be exposed and dismissed for good.

If I lived in Bangkok, I would make a hotel reservation in Pattaya or Phuket for end of July

Wissanu addressing anything illegal, much less this farce of an excuse, is rich indeed!

The ultimate gladhander, he was even once on the redshirt side.

This is not 1976, something the fossils cannot accept.

However, it could end very badly for them.

The entire greater Bangkok voted orange, they have no idea what they are up against this time.

The people are dialled in, unlike the past, when the establishment controlled the media totally. The voters are not going to stand by and let the establishment steal their own nation from them any longer.

Prepare for the worst.

To be real and honest, the majority of the population are more than likely indifferent - by their very nature.

I remember once hearing expert defined as ex being a "has been" and a spurt what happens when you put a drip under pressure...

I wonder if Wissanu is confident he has a seat on the last flight out!
