On June 19, 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Thanit Thaiwatcharamas, of the Immigration Bureau at Suvarnabhumi Airport, disclosed the apprehension of two South Korean men, Mr. Nam, aged 37, and Mr. Jang, aged 44. The individuals were implicated in narcotics trafficking and immigration violations within Thailand, reported Siam Rath.

According to Lt. Col. Thanit, the South Korean Supreme Prosecutors' Office liaised with Thai immigration authorities to solicit their cooperation in the pursuit and arrest of the duo, who were under suspicion for drug smuggling in their home country and believed to be concealed within Thailand.

The criminal activity traced back to March 2023, when authorities at Incheon uncovered an EMS package containing around 172.18 grams of methamphetamine (Ice), valued at approximately 17,218,000 won (around 460,000 baht). The investigation that followed led to the apprehension of three more South Koreans and disclosed that the suppliers, Mr. Nam and Mr. Jang, were operating out of Thailand.

The pair was located in Bangkok's Din Daeng district, where they were apprehended and charged with unlawful residence in the kingdom. The case is now under legal proceedings.
