His Majesty the King opened the new session of parliament late yesterday afternoon with a ceremony at the Parliament Complex in Nonthaburi, 

 

Shortly afterwards Move Forward Party leader Pita Lim-jaroen-rat announced his party would support The Pracha-chat Party leader to become the next Speaker of the house.


While Move Forward would take the seat for the First Deputy House Speaker, and  Pheu Thai  the Second Deputy House Speakers seat.


The House is due to hold its first official meeting today to formally elect the House speaker and two deputies.

A billionaire businessman who called himself the ‘Jack Ma of Thailand,’ was sentenced to prison on charges of fraud yesterday.


He and 2 others were found guilty of posting false advertisements to trick victims into investing in or trading luxury items and tour packages.


The court sentenced Prasit Jeaw-kok who is being detained at Bang Kwang Prison in Nonthaburi, to 5 years jail for each of 321 counts, which totals 1.155 years, however the law allows for a maximum term of 20 years. The court also ordered Prasit to pay 1 billion baht compensation to his victims. 


The Yellow Line train service began commercial operation yesterday in bangkok with fares ranging from 15 to-45 baht per trip.  The director of rail fares said young Children and the disabled may ride free of charge while senior citizens are entitled to a 50% discount.


Chulalongkorn University'is recruiting volunteers to take part in a new study aimed at assessing the effectiveness  of the Moderna bivalent Covid-19 vaccine, And whether it should be made available as a seasonal booster shot, 


A leading Health official says the number of Covid-19 cases continues to fall along with the number of related fatalities, He added the number of long covid cases was low and not a serious concern, However many people appear to be wary of getting booster jabs for fear of side effects, He assured people that covid vaccines are safe.

China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, said yesterday that China, Japan and South Korea need to send a clear signal of regrouping towards co-operation, and resist "the coercion of bullying and domination", 
His remarks came at a time of heightened tension as the United States moves to forge closer ties with Japan and South Korea to push back against China's growing regional influence.
