Heavy rain alert: Monsoon threat prompts flood and runoff warnings across Thailand

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rain, as a strong monsoon poses risks of sudden flooding and forest runoff across southern regions. Waves in the seas are predicted to reach heights of 2 to 3 metres today.

The alert was raised due to a strong monsoon trough that will pass through the northern, northeastern, and upper central parts of Thailand, moving into an area of severe low pressure over the upper South China Sea. This will combine with the strong southwestern monsoon that envelopes the Andaman Sea, the southern region, and the Gulf of Thailand.

This situation will lead to an increase in rainfall over Thailand, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain across the north, northeast, and central, including Bangkok and its vicinity, east, and southern regions.

How many more weather updates are we going to get predicting heavy rain?

I like Greek weather reports much better:tongue:

Risk alert not a prediction. Much better to have complaint about not happening instead complaint for not having warning ?

Looking out at the vast, arid Pattaya desert, we could use anything wet that the weather wants to throw at us.

You can always predict your own.  :)

At least one a day…still waiting for something substantial up here in the north, an occasional short lived torrent and a sprinkle every now and then in the valleys is all I’ve seen as of yet. The rivers appear to be normal levels, the weather systems must be banking up against mountains in the higher elevations then shadowing past the valleys…

Until they get it right I presume.

Pretty dry all over the country at the moment
