Another joint sitting of the House and Senate, for the selection of Thailand’s new prime minister, has been scheduled for 9.30am on Thursday July 27th, House speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said Wednesday night.

 

He said that the meeting will begin with the nomination by political parties of prime ministerial candidates, followed by a debate on the qualifications of the nominees, which must be completed by 5pm, after which there will be a roll call vote.

 

He said that Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat cannot be re-nominated, in accordance with Rule 41, after parliament voted 394:312 (with 8 abstentions and one who did not vote) on Wednesday that his re-nomination would break that rule.

You will need a séance not a debate for candidates with dead friends as after the lord mayors show comes the inevitable ????  

A one week delay is not ideal.

 

I don't see a reason offered for such a delay.

Pheu Thai Party Emerges as Leading Contender to Form New Government

BANGKOK (NNT) - Pheu Thai Party has taken a significant stride towards forming a new government as parliament rejected a bid to renominate Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat for a prime ministerial vote.

 

The rejection was based on Regulation No.41, which prohibits the resubmission of a motion that has already been rejected during the same session.

 

During a lengthy debate, lawmakers argued that Pita’s previous nomination for the position was already turned down by parliament on July 13 when he failed to secure the necessary majority vote in the initial round. With this development, the Pheu Thai Party has positioned itself as the front-runner in the race to form a government.

 

Observers are now closely watching whether Pheu Thai will continue its alliance with the MFP, as outlined in their memorandum of understanding (MoU), or if it will seek to create an alternative coalition by including parties from the outgoing government and excluding the MFP.

 

However, three parties from the current administration, namely Bhumjaithai, Palang Pracharath, and Chartthaipattana, have expressed their opposition to the MFP’s plan to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law. These parties have made it clear that they will not join any government that includes the MFP.

 

Following the parliamentary decision, Pheu Thai leader Cholnan Srikaew stated that the party is currently maintaining its cooperation with the other coalition allies. He indicated that discussions will take place among the eight coalition allies regarding potential revisions to the MoU and the inclusion of additional parties.

 

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has scheduled the next round of prime ministerial voting on July 27.

Thai politicians are a joke people selected who they want to be the next PM, but its still under control by the military, the military should not have any say nor should the senators, like any other countries it's the people vote

      PT needs to stick with MF and make the senators face the decision of once again voting against democracy and the will of the voters.   This time they can't hide behind the lame excuse of Pita's possibly holding an inherited miniscule share of a defunct media company.
