Highway Police Intercepts Chinese Human Trafficking Operation

On August 3, 2023, highway police led by Lieutenant Colonel Charoon Kiarti Pankaeo apprehended a human trafficking operation sneaking Chinese nationals into the city. The arrest occurred at the Bang Bua Thong elevated intersection in the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.

 

Two main suspects, Mr. Nonthawat Konpian, 27, and Mr. Achirawit Samachpong, 21, were detained along with five other Chinese individuals. A Toyota Fortuner with the license plate KONG 6432 from Trang and two mobile phones were confiscated as evidence, reported Thai Rath.

The arrest followed intelligence indicating that the two main suspects had been assisting a group of Chinese nationals in entering Thailand without permission. They were reportedly traveling from Mueang Mukdahan district and aimed to meet at a gas station in the Wang Noi district of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya to further evade authorities.

 

Initial investigations revealed charges against Nonthawat and Achirawit for aiding illegal entry. The five Chinese nationals face charges for entering the kingdom without permission. Legal proceedings are underway.

Am curious why they call this human trafficking? Seems these are not some kids or someone forced to enter Thailand illegally for work.
