Vote For Prime Minister Put Off After Court Postpones Pita Hearing

SOON after the Constitutional Court postponed a hearing on accepting a petition on the constitutionality of a vote denying Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat a second chance to be named prime minister from today Aug. 3 to Aug. 16, tomorrow’s scheduled House/Senate vote for prime minister too was put off, Naewna newspaper said.

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said as the Constitutional Court has postponed considering whether or not to accept the Ombudsman’s Office’s petition to rule on constitutionality of this vote, the first agenda of tomorrow’s joint meeting too has been put off with the second agenda moved up.

This second agenda is the consideration of a legislation filed by Move Forward to amend the coup junta-designed constitution’s Section 272 to the extent that the unelected senators be no longer empowered to cast votes for prime minister alongside the elected MPs.

Sure, maybe he'll change his plan to walking to Thailand.

Why not he's tried everything else and it eventually (not surpisingly) gets cancelled.

The paymaster is just a division maker, although he does still hold way too much power, over the naive.

That would be an interesting vote - let's say that the 250 senators voted to keep their jobs, any one who voted for them out of the 500 left would clearly be a junta supporting puppet MP

Lunacy. Does anyone know what the CC or EC actually do that is positive for Thailand? Is their function to eliminate any elected politician who might actually help the poor?

I think you got it right but it is the elites that control the military and the Senate

It all goes to show why has an unelected PM been needed for the last 8+ years then ????

I just read on a website which should not be named in this forum: "Thaksin scraps plan to return next week"

It must be really difficult for his fans to book and cancel and book and cancel all those events to welcome their hero. Really sad...

With no Government for the foreseeable future, do the Senators still get paid despite doing nothing for the rest of the year except nod their heads when commanded?

In answer to your questions, no and yes

Parliament is convening to discuss the Move Forward Party's bill aiming to eliminate the Senate's power to vote for a prime minister. However, the meeting is encountering a lack of quorum, as only 49 senators have shown up so far.
