Ratchaburi - At 9:00 PM on August 22, Mr. Boon-Ek Sarnwat, the Deputy Superintendent of Paktho Police Station, Ratchaburi Province, was informed of an incident involving a sedan crashing into a funeral hall at Wat Wimolam Rakkharam.

The vehicle, a bronze Toyota sedan with license plate number KOR-5689 Ratchaburi, had frontal damage after colliding with the hall's staircase, causing destruction to tables, chairs, and belongings.

The injured, including Mr. Sangha Phongbuppah, an 86-year-old retired soldier and head of the local elderly club, were taken to Ratchaburi Hospital. A preliminary investigation suggested a medical condition might have led to the accident, possibly causing unintentional acceleration, reported 77kaoded.

The incident occurred during a funeral gathering where a separate ceremony was ongoing in the same hall, prompting the setup of additional furniture.

Local witnesses revealed that after the religious rituals concluded, some villagers stayed to chat. While most had left, Mr. Sangha, who had been hosting the event, was preparing to drive home.

His sedan was parked in front of the hall when suddenly it accelerated, crashing into the hall. Fortunately, no one else was harmed due to the sudden acceleration.

Authorities are considering factors such as a possible gearshift mistake or a medical episode leading to the incident. Further investigation is underway.

This can only happen by human intervention in pressing the accelerator towards the floor! Own it, Sangha!

Wrong.

I was hit by a truck that a friend and I were trying to get started after it died in one of Samui's floods.

The bonnet was up. No one in the truck.

Said friend was doing something to the starting motor when the engine suddenly started and the unmanned truck drove forward, went up a dozen steps and finally stopped when it hit a tree.

All of the Thais watching started praying for the 'ghost' that was driving the truck.

It had an automatic gearbox and had been left in drive.

Said gearbox was not a factory install. The truck was converted at some time.

The insurance rep tore up the report that I had written for him and asked me to sign a blank claim which he filled in later.

Strange but true.

You are not supposed to leave it in gear. :giggle:
