POLL: Going short-time only, shallow or succulent?
Following is my original post to help give people some reference to the poll: Whenever I see a post from somebody (here on AN) talking about going short-time, or taking part in the nightlife in Thailand there will inevitably be some other posters on here who will then comment something to the effect of "sad" or "shallow", but I never understood why. So let's unpack this. First off, why is it anyone's right or business to say something condescending about another person's lifestyle, especially someone else whom they personally know nothing about? Next, what is actually sad or shallow about it? Some men simply may not want to share their life with a partner full-time, but they also don't want to be forced to be celibate. So short-time works really well for them. Nothing wrong with that. Then are there any real moral issues? No. Are they helping to put some much needed money into the lower end of the local economy? Yes. So somebody explain to me how it's sad or shallow. And furthermore, explain to me how it isn't the perfect thing for someone who still has biological needs and/or carnal desires, but feels happier being alone. I suspect many of the posters making these condescending comments are ones who are in longtime monogamous relationships, and who can't envision or understand how someone else could possibly live a happy life in any other way. But truth be told, the guy living the short-time lifestyle might be a lot happier than the guy judging him and who feels stuck in a married position. And perhaps it's the guy who is not living the short-time lifestyle who is actually the one who's feeling sad. -

Looks like Americans fight most here?
As an American, yes, we are combative. It took me years living with Thai people (in the States) to chill out. -

I'm planning to stay in Thailand over 6 months. Would Thai government try to tax me?
nobody here is able to help him, despite what any of the self appointed experts say or think, nobody yet knows how this will play out. The OP invited people to share their experiences and opinions, well its too early for any experiences to have been reported, , so in reality , all he is going to get is opinions, I really can't see what use any persons opinion would be to the OP unless the person giving the opinion was a senior player in the Thai revenue department, and even then, it would still only be an opinion -

Thailand Unveils 77 Billion Baht Light Rail Plans for Four Cities
Walking in CM sucks and this is from a person who hikes miles in mountains when I'm in USA. You'll be covered in sweat and very few roads have sidewalks. It's ok in the winter (Singapore is still hot probably then?) but even so there's not much walkable area except a few zones. Everyone uses a motorbike for a reason. -

Where to have spine surgery in Bangkok
As I previously indicated, the purpoise of going to BNH was to get Prof. Wicharn's recommendation, not to necessarily have surgery there. Now that iti s confirmed she needs surgery (and from the cost, apparently a 2 level fusion), you can explore other options that cost less. Bangkok Hospital will not be cheaper. A single level cervical spine is about 400K. https://www.bangkokinternationalhospital.com/packages-promotions/spine-surgery-packages-2 However if you insist in this hospital (should actually never choose the hospital, rather the surgeon -- and make absolutely sure it is a spinal specialist with experience operating on cervical spine) then the doctor you would want is https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/doctor/assoc-prof-dr-worawat-limthongkul?srsltid=AfmBOoqzr6BkgVuRt0kCBjK_LnsB5bs4lqn0iFjuVgEinqlwK5JdPWBK My suggested options: (A) See the same doctor as above at Chulalongkorn Hospital, seeing him through their after hours clinic: https://spcweb.kcmh.or.th/users/users/getDoctorClinic/8d51362723f31bd29648a7cd8f317b47-010514- Above website is in Thai, open in Chrome for English translation. He is there Wednesday and Friday evenings. Have your GF call 02-256-5193 for an appointment (not much English spoken) and make note of the appointment confirmation number given. Then arrive at the Por Por Ror Building by 3 PM (on Rama IV road, accessible by walkway from BTS), register for a patient number on the ground floor, showing them the ocnfirmation number, proceed to the floor they tell you and wait. They start issuing queue numbers at 4 PM. Expect crowds and long wait. I don't know what cost would be at Chula on private basis but certainly less than either BNH or Bangkok Hospital. (B) Another option is this surgeon at Bangkok Christian Hospital (BCH): https://www.bch.in.th/find-doctor/doctor-profile/?smid=4548 He specifically specializes in cervical spine surgery It will cost less at BCH than at BNH or BH but I can't say how much less or how it will compare to Chula private channel. Waits will be less and overall dealings easier at BCH. (C) Lastly, but not least - she can probably get this done through the government "30 baht" system (though would have to pay out of pocket for all the titanium screws etc, so probably at least still 100K) is you do the following: (1) with all records, scans, Xrays in hand , including Prof. Wicharn's note recommending surgery, go to the Chulalongkorn orthopedic clinic public channel during normal working hours. She may have to first get a referral from a general doctor. Need to arrive at crack of dawn, and expect very long waits and crowds. May take more than a day to be seen in the ortho clinic. (2) Once she is, tell them she saw Prof. Wicharn privately and he recommended surgery on cervical spine, then show all records. (He is in a senior position at Chula, they all know who he is). (3) Once surgery there is being actively discussed, explain that she is covered under the "30 baht" scheme at Hospital X in the provinces and ask for a letter to show that hospital to get a referral letter from them which will get her surgery at Chula covered under that scheme. (4) Take that letter back to the hospital where she is registered in her home province and ask for a referral. This approach usually works though may need to be assertive and persistant. There will still be some private costs e.g. for the hardware (maybe 100 - 150k) and private room assuming you opt for one. As you can see option (c) is by far the cheapest but also the most time consuming to pursue. Options A & B will be less than BCH or NH but still pretty costly (i.e. somewhere between 300 - 550K or so) -

I voted succulent. I have never gone short time (honestly), but it sounds like a great deal, compared to the alternatives.- 1

Australia has never been a fully socialist country, but it has implemented various policies and systems that are associated with socialism. However, even during those times, the country maintained a capitalist economy with private property and market-driven principles. So, while Australia has adopted some socialist policies, it has remained a fundamentally capitalist country. -

Kamala Harris’s Convention Speech
You don't admit it but you were lying. Prove it! Trump praised Russia's takeover of Crimea. He did withhold deliveries when trying to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political rival, Biden cancelled sanctions on the company behind Nordstream 2, not on Russia. Then he increased sanctions on Russia. Yes Biden halted one military package for a few weeks before the Biden-Putin summit. He did notcstopcaid. -
