Strong waves warning in Krabi, Andaman Sea, and Gulf of Thailand

The Nopparat Thara Beach National Park in Krabi issued a weather warning for high waves, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. The park has advised caution for all marine activities within its jurisdiction.

Thapanee Ariyudomwong, head of Nopparat Thara Beach-Phi Phi Islands National Park, announced the weather warning and urged careful conduct of tourism activities during the period of storms and strong winds.

This announcement followed the Thai Meteorological Department’s (TMD) advisory yesterday, concerning heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds and waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, which are expected to persist until September 6.

The strong monsoon trough is predicted to move down, passing over the northern, northeastern, and upper central parts of Thailand, accompanied by the southwestern monsoon that prevails over the Andaman Sea. Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to increase in intensity.

The waves and wind in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are quite strong. Waves are reaching 2 to 3 metres and, in areas with thunderstorms, the waves could exceed 3 metres.
