Unless this man is going to be on Medicaid with his care paid by the government, I can't imagine finding any kind of facility in the USA that would only charge $1,000 a month or so. They simply don't exist. Fifteen years ago, in the Midwest US, my Dad's wife's care in a nursing home was $7500 a month. Nine months later, when my Dad needed it, the monthly bill was $9,500.00. Depending on the length of stay, those charges can add up. If "skilled nursing care" isn't necessary and he could get by with an assisted living facility, he might be able to find something in the neighborhood of $4K a month. Still, that much more than it would cost in Thailand.
