Wars Between Siamese And Neighboring Kingdoms

Featured Replies

I'm curious about the non-politically correct subject of military history.

Am particularly keen on finding out about the (at least) two historic campaigns between Siam and Burma, but histories of other regional campaigns are cool. Am open to corresponding with English speakers who are knowledgable about the history, and/or getting directed to reading material on the subject. Prefer non-fiction accounts, not novels, and the more concise - the better.

David K. Wyatt (ed). The Chiang Mai Chronicle has lots of war information about Chiang Mai vs. Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai vs. Burma; The Chronicle, The Sheaf of Garlands of the Epoch of the Conqueror ed. by Jickawayara (sp. mistake for sure also covers this). On the Burma side, Victor Lieberman probably has information although I have forgotten the name of his books, and the Chronicle of Kings (trans. from Burmese) will have some details about Burma-Ayutthaya, and Burman-Mon wars. Someone translated a 15th century poem that, I think, is about the Chiang Mai-Ayutthaya Wars. That may be in one of the editions of the Journal of the Siam Society.

By the way, Wyatt also translated the Nan Chronicle, which has some information about the Burman takeover of that kingdom in the sixteenth or seventeeth century.
