Mae Sai-tachilek Border

Featured Replies

I tried searching the forum to find an answer to this, but couldn't locate anything.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I need to know if the border crossing at Mae Sai to Tachilek is open on Sundays. My tourist visa expires on a Sunday, and I would like to cross over on that day and return getting a 30-day visa-exempt entry.

Just wondering if I might be in for a surprise, if if fact the crossing is closed on Sundays. I would assume it is open, but you know what happen when one 'assumes', right?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes it is open on a Sunday. I dont like leaving things until the last day of my visa though in case you get any unpleasant surprises, such as they start enforcing the onward ticket rule at Mae Sai. Always best to go a day or 2 before and asking if you will be let back in before you're stamped out, that gives you a bit of leeway.

Thanks WD. for the word there.

I agree, normally I would do it a day or two in advance. The deal is this time I need to push it to the limit, as I have my flight booked to depart Thailand on exactly the 30th day after I come back across the border. Of course, I'll have that ticket with me.

Thanks again, good to get clear on that.
