Police say the teenager who went on a shooting spree, killing two people in the Siam Paragon shopping mall, had suffered a psychological breakdown and had modified a handgun designed to fire blanks.


He has been charged with premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm.  The youngster would undergo a psychiatric evaluation.


MPs offered several proposals on public safety  to help prevent a recurrence of the shooting. One idea was to introduce a cell phone alert system.

 

Five senior Din Daeng police officers have been reassigned pending an investigation into alleged negligence following the discovery of a gambling den within their area. A raid on Tuesday led to 54 arrests and the confiscation of seven gambling machines. The den had been disguised as a snooker club, with five heavily fortified stainless steel electric doors designed to evade police.

Surachate assured them that they would not face dispersal and stated that the government would give due consideration to their demands regarding various rights.

 

The Air Force is delaying the purchase of  fighter jets due to the government's shift in priorities towards supporting the economy, putting non urgent projects on hold. 


However the airforce says the current F-16 squadron is aging and will need to be replaced from 2028.
