THERE IS MORE THAN ONE way for the Pheu Thai-led government to adequately finance their 10,000-baht digital wallet project, confirmed Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general to the prime minister, today (Oct.13).

 

Prommin was apparently responding to doubts expressed publicly as to where the government could potentially find a sum of 560 billion baht to fund the much-heralded populist project promised during the Pheu Thai electoral campaign earlier this year.

 

Prommin said one way to find enough funding for the digital wallet project is to slash budgets for varied government agencies or suspend any planned costly procurement and construction projects in the current fiscal year during which an estimated 3.3 trillion baht in total of the government’s annual budget may be given.

yes tax foreign pensioners and make it extremely difficult for them to claim it back, extortion is the right word to describe this

I would like to see some effort by the media and opposition to find out and expose what this is all about.

Does the government want to do this to help poor people? Will they make sure that all the money goes to the poor people?

Or is this some kind of scam like the rice scam from the Shinawatras?

This is a huge amount of money, and I am sure the greedy people who invented this and will execute this will know already how they will get their hands on a good part of that money.

Investigate and expose it!

Yeah, we've heard of two of them already, Tax the foreigners income and a 300 baht levy on all incomers.

As i wrote many times already, the Government should first start to investigate its population. Let everybody register in the place they live , with their occupation and assets... So they know who is poor, and who don't need the 10k help. But now they have no clue who si living where, what they do and earn and what they possess. How can you make a plan if the outcome is already doomed to fail. Example my foster kid is living in a different province but is still registered in our home. If he can get his 10k( which he surely needs) and he can only spend it it in a radius of 4 km around my house he has to come everytime to buy at 7/11 as no other shops are around me. That is a bit stupid I suppose

Let's make believe the power of this government that purports to represent the sovereignty of the Thai People..

 

The military (that's all branches) during an earlier (2022?) House review of the Defense budget by Future Forward Party acknowledged it has "off-the-books budgetary resources (my synopsis) independent of the Thai Treasury (such as it's own financially funded soldier welfare fund) through various military direct and indirect controlled enterprises. Such income likely is not taxed by the Thai government, ie., by virtue of secret nature of such income. The military was to identify all such financial enterprises but to date has not, to my knowledge, done so.

So the government should compell such information and either back-tax it (to 2014?) or due lack of cooperation reduce the Defense budget accordingly by, ie., 30% until such meaningful financial information is provided to the House. Such action should be done under authority of existing laws and no new legislation should be required, ie., consent by the pro-military  Senate.

Regardless of any compliance by the military, the net effect on the Treasury would be an increase in available funding.

Thousands upon Thousands of people will probably be excluded from the scheme by the fact they are working / studying outside their Province of Registration ( as per ID Card registration address )

Any scheme has to have a Nationwide spend allowance placed upon it to accommodate all the Transients in the Country

560 Billion will have tom be found one way or another, and however its found, there will be consequences somewhere within the Economy
