Petrol prices to drop by 2.50 baht as new year gift, says Thailand’s Energy Minister

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy announced plans to reduce petrol prices by 2.50 baht per litre as a new year’s gift to the Thai people. The minister, Peeraphan Saleerathaviphak, also revealed the establishment of an official committee to investigate fuel pricing.

Peeraphan revealed that the Ministry of Energy is considering ways to reduce petrol prices to help the public with cost of living expenses, comparing this with previous reductions in diesel prices. He highlighted that the idea is to offer a new year’s gift to the people of Thailand.

In a recent Cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Energy reported two initial options for consideration.

The first option consisted of supporting motorbike taxi drivers, similar to previous efforts, for 95 million baht per month. The second option involved extending support from motorbike taxi drivers to low-income groups, which would cost approximately 4 million baht per month, Peeraphan revealed.

“I did not agree with the two measures proposed by the Ministry of Energy this morning because the government’s policy aims to reduce fuel prices overall, not to offer group-specific support.

“Therefore, I asked the officials to go back and provide more details, including a third option to reduce petrol prices overall, similar to diesel. This will be proposed to the Cabinet in the future.”

Bangkok prices.

Prices for rest of country easily 0.50 Baht higher, islands maybe more.

Diesel price fixed by subsidies/preferences at the expense of petrol/gasoline users.

Wait for Iran get involved in the middle east war the price will skyrocket, in my country it is already 57 Baht.

The rule set/laws/taxes regarding motor traffic is a complete outdated joke.

Don't know where to start.

Instead of shuffling billions around to manipulate fuel prices encourage people to buy fuel saving cars and don't advantage bulky Diesel pickups.

Some of the most boring "mix" of vehicles on the roads. Comes just after Afghanistan ????

Big signs all over the place on main roads... I think diesel was 29.9 baht last time I got some.

Reduction of diesel prices was to help companies not the public

Diesel B7 is Bht 30.27 here in P'lok, which is only 0.33 higher than your table.

You like to whine and complain.

I doubt anyone will drive more, they will just pay less.

If they put it up would you still be bitchin?

No. Gas prices are dropping because oil prices have dropped, and you forgot to reduce gas prices by much, and instead over charged. Now, you attempt to claim credit for something that is corrupt and unfair to the people.

Also,

"Thailand’s state-owned Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) plans to lower the electricity price for electric vehicle (EV) charging services providers, aiming to make charging facilities more available to the public .... The preferential policy is expected to take effect from January 1 next year."   Sept. 20, 2023 senecaesg.com

Bidenomics at play in Thailand... raise the prices beyond high then lower them (but they are still higher than they were to begin with) and declare that they are saving money for the little guy.

So no more excuses to justify absurdly high prices in shops and various retail outlets in Bangkok.

Yep,after the hospital attack global  benchmark prices increased $3/barrel or 3%.

If it goes up any more, the government will put up petrol prices ,Christmas is still a long way off, regarding fuel prices .
