Nonthaburi hospital under scrutiny after TikTok video sparks debate about medical ethics

A heated confrontation between a patient and a doctor has led to an investigation by a hospital in Nonthaburi. The incident, which took place yesterday, was brought to light through a video shared on the social media platform TikTok by a user named ‘Lamduanbah’.

The video, captioned “Ethics is hard to find these days”, has sparked a debate about professional ethics and patient care in Thailand.

The dispute occurred at a hospital in the Bang Bua Thong market area. Lamduan, a 28 years old producer, had taken her 75 year old grandmother to the hospital’s off-hours clinic for a scheduled appointment. However, tensions arose when the hospital could not find the grandmother’s medical records, leading to a disagreement between Lamduan and a female doctor at the hospital.

Lamduan explained that her grandmother was unable to receive her medication due to the hospital’s inability to locate her records.

Being incompetent has nothing to do with ethics.

While it should not happen, a large and busy hospital could misfile things ....no point screaming at the doctor who does not handle filing ....

Shouldn't records be on a database these days?

I know; any interaction with Immigration or any Government "service" involves lots of paperwork.

Many years ago I travelled over 200 miles for a specialist appointment to The Royal Free Hospital in London. They also lost my record and the consultant refused to see me. I was informed of this by a nursing auxiliary and told to go home. At least the doctor took responsibility and I presume tried to apologise

Pressed the wrong button and saved before I was finished

good for them speaking up.

many thai's will not speak up to people in authority, including doctors.

I don't quite understand this, why did she have to go home and return? I have always taken any meds not finished with me or the empty container, it's just common sense to me.

Plus it was "an off-hours clinic" so I'd guess main reception not open to access records.

Arguing with the doctor is not going to resolve anything.  They have nothing to do with medical records.  That would be hospital administration who the complaint be directed to.  Possibly the doctor could assist.  But yelling at the doctor will get you nowhere.
