Would Donald Trump’s tariffs hurt US consumers?
Biggest US economic blunder. Google it. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, also known as the Tariff Act of 1930, was a law that increased tariffs on imported goods to the United States by about 20%: Purpose The law was intended to protect American farmers and other industries from foreign competitors. Impact The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act led to a decline in global trade, which contributed to the Great Depression. The law also raised the prices of food and other items. Reaction At least 25 countries responded to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act by increasing their own tariffs on American goods. Supporters The law was sponsored by Senator Reed Smoot of Utah and Representative Willis Hawley of Oregon. Opposition More than 1,000 economists urged President Herbert Hoover to veto the bill. Result The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. In 1932, voters turned the majority in both houses over to the Democrats, who booted Smoot and Hawley out of office. Legacy The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act highlighted the dangers of protectionist trade policies for the world economy. After the law, most countries promoted free trade agreements. -

Thai rider physically assaulted female client over confusing address
I feel a tad sorry for delivery drivers and taxis etc trying to follow Google maps or whatever. Here on Samui - the maps are inaccurate with some sois not being on the map and some in the wrong place. I live on an unnamed sub soi. It is in fact two roads from the main soi, which heads in three different direction with the ends of those roads being 1.5 kilometers apart. Then we have the house numbering system. I built three houses. Numbered 8/23, 8/52 and 8/11. They are in a row on the same plot of land. The house number tells you when it was built - not where it is. 23rd house built, 52nd house built, 11th house built. My next door neighbour is 8/159! Then we have 'sponsored' street names. Named after the hotel that sponsors the sign. Just because it is there on the internet, does not mean that it is accurate or true. -

Trying to make appointment for retirement extension
Thanks. If the whole month ahead from today is full I am worried what the situation will be when I go in late Dec. for a Jan. slot. Last year the process was a breeze. Plenty of open slots. Weird there's not one showing for the whole next 30 days. -

Gop Speaker places a ban in the Capitol restrooms…
Only question I would ask, if the unisex facilities are easily accessible to the members and staff serving in the House or Senate? If so, then it only boils down to grandstanding as it is a non-issue already accommodated.- 1

Elderly British Man Injured in Electric Tricycle Crash in Pattaya
Yep - nothing personal (again) and its interesting to see things from a different perspective even if we don't agree. I don't live in Pattaya, so I don't know how much of a 'blight' these Mobility scooters are to the traffic / road systems - but given all the other causes to road difficulties, I can't see that these modes of transport make things any worse. The roads are not 'unsuitable' for their choice of transport - they have no issues getting around (give or take the odd crate strewn in a road) It is the very suitability of this type of transport that makes it popular for those with mobility issues in Places like Pattaya in the first place. The only issue here is that 'some' have a whinge about it and for some reason they pin-point this as an issue in an area with a multitude of far more significant issues.
