At October 22nd, a tragic accident occurred on the treacherous bends of Doi Inthanon, a site notorious for fatal accidents. A fully-loaded pickup truck, descending the mountain after a delivery, lost control and collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the immediate deaths of the two young male riders, approximately aged 20, from Mae Chaem, Chiang Mai.

The truck didn’t stop there; it also crashed into a black Fortuner SUV carrying tourists, causing it to overturn and injuring one person, reported Thai Rath.

The rescue team, comprising of Inthanon Rescue, Ban Luang Rapid Response Unit, and the Disaster Response Team of Chom Thong, along with the Chom Thong police and ambulance service, rushed to the accident site, located just 300 meters from the Mong Market at Kilometer 31-32.

The force of the collision left the motorcycle wrecked, its riders lifeless on the road. The injured tourist was promptly transported to the nearby Chom Thong Hospital. The pickup truck, alongside its injured driver, was found at the bottom of a ravine.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the pickup was returning from a delivery on Doi Inthanon. The accident occurred on a sharp curve downhill - the same location where a mayor from Pathum Thani province met a tragic end in a flipped Fortuner, resulting in five fatalities in November 2020. Further investigation is underway by the local police to ascertain the exact cause of this recurring tragedy.

Maybe time for some road restrictions to reduce speed on the downhill section.

Simply start with large road marking in yellow that then increase as the bend needs then change to red. Will it stop them maybe! It cheap and they can ask insurance companies to foot the bill, it would save them money to invest in accident calming areas.
