Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced his government’s intention to promote Thailand as a global festival destination, in the hopes of boosting tourism across the country and attracting more foreign tourists over the New Year period.

Srettha announced today that Thailand will host two major events, namely the “Thailand Winter Festival”, which consists of 3,000 festivals and local events across the country, and the “Colourful Bangkok Winter Festival 2023”, which includes 200 festivals and events in the capital. All of these will all take place in November and December this year.

“Our aim is to use these two major events to boost the country’s economy and attract tourists to Thailand,” Srettha said, while also revealing plans to promote the country as a world festival hub by improving its infrastructure, such as the construction of a new airport on the Andaman coast, as well as the visa-free policy to attract tourists from targeted countries.

There is one thing that is definitely true. Thailand is the hub of using the word hub. Don't know why they just don't get rid of the peripherals and just say..."Thailand. The Hub of Hubs."

Having people travel all the way to Thailand for festivals is nothing short of bloody ridiculous.  Nobody is going to do that.

The TAT is out to lunch and their minds.

Umh, Thailand doesn't really have a winter. Admittedly it can get a bit nippy up in the mountains in the top North on the odd occasion, and we've occasionally had a touch of frost for the odd hour or so of a morning on the peaks, but winter in sweltering Bangkok?

Global fiasco destination.

Hubs and soft power.  Get over it.

Ooh, look. We're just in time for the Festival of Litter!

Does Thailand have a " Worthy Farm "

There's the wet season, the dry season and the cool season. Cool season temps can drop below 10C in Issan in the early morning. Tropics have 2 or 3 seasons depending on proxomity to the equator. The tropics DO NOT have winter. As for BKK it's very rare for temps to drop below 20C. Cooler temps maybe for a couple of wks and that's it.

The most important thing is to make travel and walking in Thailand safe first, guns are not even on the radar compared to road deaths that never needed to happen. Start with a proper police force, and enforce road and pedestrian safety, that would do more good for tourism than anything.

Exactly my point.

lately a lot of crime related reports, would say almost on a daily basis and yet Thailand wants to become a tourist hot spot or a world festival destination

Well making money they aren't doing.  It's high season now and the braggart articles aren't appearing about how many visitors are coming and kabillions (sic) of bhat are being spent.

I'm sure its busy in some spots but overall tourism is plain jane down.

The last taxi I took the man screamed at me multiple times and called me an ''Ai Hia''.  They really need to line up the taxi drivers and march them back to the slums.  Tossing useless.

Great idea!

They could have the Corruption festival, the  Buy An Engine-less Submarine festival, the Income Disparity festival, the Bribe A Government Official festival, the Dual Pricing festival, the Jet Ski Scam festival, the Flooding festival, the Brown Envelope festival, the Traffic Jam festival, the Traffic Deaths festival, the Military Dictatorship festival (not held every year, but close to it), the Vote Buying festival (not held every year), the Backhander festival, the Be Beaten By A Taxi Driver festival, the PM 2.5 Pollution festival, the Super Low Bargain Wine Price festival, the Sustainable Everything Whatever That Means festival, the Wave Of Kazakhstan Tourists Will Save Us festival, the Rice Pledging festival, the Anutin Insults Foreigners festival, the Brake Failure festival, the Grand Palace Is Closed Today festival, the Of Course This Is A Genuine Gucci Bag festival, the Hidden Airport Tax festival, the Happy Ending festival, the Hey Handsome Man Where You Go festival, the Nigerian Drug Dealers festival, the See Lottery Numbers In Tree Bark festival, the "No Have" festival, the No Spreek You Langritch festival, the "Falang Cannot" festival, the Lucky Amulet festival, the How Many R.T.P. Can Squeeze Into A News Photo festival, the Sidewalk Obstructions festival, the I Love You Long Time festival, the Every Immigration Office Has Different Rules festival, the Hub of Hubs festival, ...

Each of these festivals is absolutely guaranteed to bring in at least 123,000,000,000 new high income high quality high spending tourists, injecting at least 3.14159 quadrillion baht into the ever-dying, ever-reviving Thai economy (generals and a few super-rich families only, the ubiquitous poor need not apply), according to the infallible T.A.T. calculator.

I'm not even a fan, but if you were to announce a Taylor Swift concert in Bangkok, you could pack any stadium in the city and there'd be no more room at Swampy for any more private jets to park.

Thailand, hub of amazing festivals...

Thailand has quite strict gun laws but it is the illegally held guns that are the problem.

Are you kidding me, guns don't have to be locked away in a gun cabinet, just left laying around loaded, for kids to pick up (or anybody else) which has happened a least twice to my knowledge,  kept loaded in cars, waved around in public, shot off in public, imported, so please explain what the  ''quite strict'' laws are, the laws are broken all the time, and it time to introduce mandatory sentencing.

90 days please.. with the option to extend another 90 day...
