Aggressive Taxi Drivers that hang around outside hotels.

Featured Replies

can anyone shed some light on these vermin?

what is with their attitude toward farangs?

They hurl abuse at those who ignore them and walk past,

and follow them aggressively.

dont they remember covid time?

when they had no money to feed their families for 3 years?

do these people just love biting the hand that feeds them?

how about a bit of professionalism and common courtesy for a change..

its no wonder a lot of foreigners hold such a negative opinion of the locals when this is all that most will see.

your average faring isn't coming for a 3 week holiday to Korat or Udon.

They mostly go to the tourist hotspots and these aggressive locals need sorting out pronto because they are giving a bad impression to tourists.

This may be the pub but that doesn't prevent me from finding this thread highly objectionable. Thai taxi drivers don't spit at foreigners and wave placards in their faces and berate them in restaurant

  • It didn't happen so by definition I couldn't possibly have been there.

Congratulations Bob, you did it again. Post a nonsense topic with nonsense text then argue about things you know aren't true but no one (including you) can prove one way or the other.   Ther

sorry what?

As a tourist I see the ones outside the hotels are often super nice to you until they're not. Super nice if they think they can charge you triple the going rate to the airport, or take you on a tour that includes a visit to their friends at a gemstone factory - wholesale price sir - or similar, and then not if they realise you aren't going there.

from what I have seen they are dangerous,

They are now even resorting to going up to tourists sat in restaurants eating with their city tour placards and waving them in their faces.

it's disgusting, and if they ever did that to a family member of mine in my presence I would clock him square on the chin.

There's a fine line between what is humorous and satire and what is offensive, you are on the wrong side of that line at present.

Sure Bob. Sure you would.

But take a video, or it never happened. Just like the spitting thing.

They pay to be there, so they want more money from you. I mean, duh. Possibly even super-duh.

Note to Bob: please never open the mini-bar fridge. They want money for that Toberone bar. Like, a lot.

Agreed, but you may also want to point out that "triple the going rate" is still a tiny fraction of a taxi fare back home.  I used the guys in front of my hotel when I first arrived, and they were always helpful, friendly and more than worth the few extra peanuts they cost me. Once I got the lay of the land, I quit using them for the most part.

Overall, I'm not a huge fan of the system they operate in, where they pay someone for their spot in front of that hotel, so they have to recoup that from passenger.  But they're not all bad with no redeeming attributes.  And though they've never spat on me, I can see where that may happen.

you clearly haven't been to a tourist hotspot recently.

While I recognize that folks experiences are different, I can honestly say that since my first visit to Thailand in the 1980s, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of problems I have had with Thai folks. Ive never been harassed, intimated or treated with any lack of respect.

Allegations made by the OP are IMHO, simply not true.

There was a syndicated radio talk show host, Tom Leykis, back in the US. He had a label for behavior like this: attention whore.
