webfact
In the wake of a devastating bus crash earlier this week in Prachuap Khiri Khan, local officials are stepping up efforts to bolster road safety measures in time for the upcoming New Year festival. The tragic incident, which occurred on December 5th around 1:00 AM along Phetkasem Road, involved a Bangkok-Nathawi passenger bus crashing into a tree in Thap Sakae District, near Wanakorn National Park. The catastrophic accident resulted in 14 deaths and 35 injuries, sparking an urgent dialogue on the need for enhanced road safety and driver vigilance. In response, Mr. Decha Ruengon, the head of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, announced plans to use the incident as a case study. The goal is to develop and implement preventive measures, particularly as the province anticipates heightened travel during the New Year festivities. Time the government stepped in to overhaul thew hole public transport system. Both in vehicle checks and driver training and working hours. 1
AhFarangJa
Same old knee jerk reaction by incompetent, lazy officials who only think of kickbacks. If they did their job in the first place, then maybe this, and many more hundreds of accidents would not happen.
Popular Post Classic Ray
Nothing will be done for two reasons: 1. Coaches/buses are owned by rich people who don’t want to spend money/reduce profit on safety features. 2. Passengers are poor people with no political clout and no alternative transport. 1 2
Ombra
Not only is that stretch of road either unlit or badly lit, but the camber is poor. Someone driving fast can find his vehicle unexpectedly drifting to one side or the other. The Prachuap officials ought to drive south 50 kms to Chumphon province and see the dramatic improvement in the quality of the road. 1
PETERTHEEATER
The Transport Minister has visited the scene and made a 'tough' statement/promise therefore it was neccessary for local officials to also issue one. Ironically this gentleman heads a Disaster Prevention Office.
Popular Post brianthainess
You can put in as many rest stops as you like, how will that make PSV drivers stop and rest? There is not even a basic law here on drivers hours, so nothing to enforce, they really do need to wake up (no pun intended) MODERN Digital TACOGRAPHS should become MANDATORY as have been law on all new commercial vehicles since 2006 in the UK. + dashcams. Is around 20k baht (factory fitted) too much to pay for saving lives, I'm sure some minister could bring in the law and make a bit for his back pocket, maybe a family member can open a business to fit them. Owners could be given say 2yrs to pay at 500b a month. Oh sorry that's logic. DO IT ! 1

They are not that easy to disable and IF the traffic cops made stops, and downloaded the info they would know immediately, its the RTP that are the problem, taking bribes, and large companies should have a transport manager to check them. At least the majority would not disable them. IMO

spidermike007
There is no studying required, you just get the incredibly lazy Highway Patrol to actually patrol the highways, thereby creating a deterrent for reckless drivers. Not every accident is going to be prevented, but it's sure going to bring down the death toll. 1
