On December 21, 2023, at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Pol. Lt. Gen. Itthipol Itthisarnratchai, the Commander of the Immigration Bureau, led a meeting of military personnel and customs officials at the immigration checkpoint.

Lt. Gen. Chongron Rimpadi, the Deputy Commander of the Immigration Bureau 2, and other government officials attended the ceremony, reported Siam Rath.

Lt. Gen. Chongron stated that the Immigration Bureau had implemented measures to facilitate the arrival process during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

These measures aim to ensure security and streamline the immigration procedures from December 24, 2023, to January 1, 2024. It is anticipated that over 70,000 tourists will enter the country daily during this period.

Lt. Gen. Itthipol emphasized that the Prime Minister's policy to promote tourism and enhance the confidence and safety of international tourists visiting Thailand is being actively pursued.

The Immigration Bureau is proactively implementing policies and providing souvenir sprays containing alcohol for international tourists arriving during the extended holidays to create a memorable and vibrant experience for them while traveling in Thailand.

Yes, and if I arrived in the country and saw them I'd find it disturbing. How on Earth do they see themselves in police uniform offering a welcome? They have no idea.

Ceremonies are just that. Get the surly guys and gals at the incoming checkpoints to be a tiny bit friendly. It does not take much to offer a smile. Thank you for coming and supporting us in a time of need. Yeah, right.

yeah and if i saw this after just getting off the plane, I would turn around and beg to be sent home. Why do police always think outright displays promote confidence in Thailand. Especially when most people know if you actually see many officers standing in wait, it means you will be paying some tea money.

But so Thai..

Bangkok is the most visited city in the world 2023 and boomers on this board, who live in Esan or Pattaya, complaining about bad Thai politics :passifier:

Yep, so true. However, if not in the country they will not be able to be served.

They dont exactly look like friendly & inviting people and by personal experience that often give foreigners surly looks which is the opposite of what they should be doing. When will their superiors realise this or is that too much to expect?

"Look at the camera please Sir.......thank you."

"Fingers on the print scanner please Sir.....now the other hand......thank you"

"Look into the spray nozzle Sir while we give you a burst of alcohol.....thank you."

"Yes, all religions, no exceptions"

To an ol' man like me this is nearly incomprehensible. But I guess it must be good or they wouldn't be doing it.

"Well it was a nice day out except for the standing in line bit and listening to bull$hit, otherwise it was a good laugh."

Did they get the tourists to fill out a confidential survey to see if they felt more confident seeing an army of the boys in brown waiting for them on arrival? More than likely most were shocked and concerned how much it was going to cost them

First time I flew alone I asked for help from the airport staff.  The girl screamed GO! and turned away and continued chatting with her friends.  It wasn't even busy.

Few years later the cop on the immigration desk threw my passport at me and just pointed behind me.  I did something wrong on the form.

Suvarnabhumi is one of the worst airports I have passed though in terms of service.

Is this picture taken in North Korea?

What is up with this police pompous at the airport??? That's the last thing any tourists wanted to see. Viet Nam is more welcoming and they're a communist nation!!

Lol!!!

Some of them look like they need to be registered with Weight Watchers.

Got treated appallingly on Monday night at Phuket airport, i didnt realise was one day over 30day stay so pay 500bht and then Jetstar cancels flight back to Sydney Australia as say plane broke down so everyone to be put up in accommodation for night so go to leave and immigration say no way you cant leave airport so forced to try and sleep on floor or chair , no shower no blanket nothing till able to fly back nearly 24 hours later, so much for spending 90,000 bht on hotel and over 100,000bht on food, drink ,etc.

Presumably you will be fully compensated by Jetstar?  Not really Immigration's fault.

No compensation from Jetstar as have no receipts and i had no real costs except for changing flight to Brisbane which was $49 so not worth claiming, i was just disappointed they showed no compassion.

with circumstances out of my control.

Could I have a Christmas themed stamp, please, on my brand new passport, officer.

Don't they just love the uniforms. Maybe a change of colour wouldn't go amiss.
