Thailand Prepares for EU Deforestation-Free Products Regulation

BANGKOK (NNT) - Narumon Pinyosinwat, the Thai Trade Representative, has chaired a meeting on the rubber industry in preparation for the implementation of the European Union’s Deforestation-free Products Regulation (EUDR).

 

The regulation primarily focuses on products free from deforestation. For rubber imports and related products, it requires that they originate from legally certified rubber plantations, not located in upstream areas, conservation areas, or forest areas. The rubber plantations must be environmentally friendly and not adversely impact society.

 

Narumon views that the new EU regulation is an excellent opportunity to enhance Thailand’s global trade competitiveness and expressed confidence that it would not negatively impact the country.

 

Currently, over 90% of rubber farmers are registered with the Rubber Authority of Thailand, with the ability to identify the location of their rubber plantations, thus complying with the EUDR. The Rubber Authority of Thailand is working in tandem with the development of proper international standard management systems for rubber plantations, enhancing the opportunity for Thai rubber in the global market.

 

Narumon also stated that the Thai government places significant importance on this matter, instructing relevant agencies to continuously monitor the EUDR measures. Governmental agencies have been in discussions with the European Union to promote measures ensuring that Thai rubber and its products meet the standards, thereby generating income and increasing prices for Thai rubber farmers.

Yes, you have to comply with that above all, with those ridiculous EU rules, one of the reasons I fled that area.
