Predictive Texting

Featured Replies

I just bought a new phone, a Nokia 1110. It has predictive texting in Thai and English. English is no problem but I can't really figure out how the Thai can work because there are no spaces between the words. If you have a phone with this function, particularly if it's a Nokia, please try it now and see if you can create a 10-word sentence. Let me know the result.

Disappointingly the manual, although it is in 2 languages, has just been slavishly translated from English to Thai with no reference to the fact that some of the buttons used in texting are different when using Thai. For instance, to "okay" a word, in English one presses "0", when doing this in Thai, a vowel is produced. Similarly, in English one uses "*" to go through a list of possible words. In Thai, this again gives vowels.

I have the same phone and would be interested in hearing how this works too. I simply found it annoying and turned it off so I could type normally.

When I first saw this feature in the iphone I wondered how it may be applied to Thai, I have a Nokia E70 which has a fold out keyboard. It doesn't have predictive texting but it works pretty well.
