Dissolution Of Bhumjaithai Sought Over Saksayam’s Convicted Wrongdoing

THE ELECTION COMMISSION was today (Jan.19) petitioned to forward a criminal case to the Constitutional Court in pursuit of a dissolution of the Bhumjaithai following the court-convicted wrongdoing of Saksayam Chidchob, former secretary-general of the second largest coalition partner.

The petition submitted to the polling agency by activist lawyer Patrapong Supaksorn primarily calls for the Constitutional Court’s possible ruling to dissolve the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, brother of Saksayam who has recently resigned as Bhumjaithai secretary-general and a party-listed MP.

Saksayam has been recently ruled guilty by court of illegally holding shares via a nominee in Buri Charoen Construction Ltd. Part. whilst assuming a cabinet seat as transport minister in the time of a previous government.

So one person's problem or misdoing (whether true or not) may be considered to be grounds for abolishing a whole political party ...

Grow up, Thailand! Move forward!

... only if said party is viewed as pro-democracy.

If rest of the world had to dissolve political parties because of one members misdoings, political parties would be non-existent.

(Like GOP in US :-) )

Well, his brother New and Anutin might have different plans for the(ir) future?

Ridiculous on the face of it, but this is Thailand....

Interesting comment "Move forward". This may not be so if Pita is eventually found guilty and his party is abolished, just like Thanathorn and his Future Forward party. Maybe a glimmer of hope if Bhumjaithai, the pro-military, pro-Monarchy, pro-establisment and anti true democracay party is abolished.

Crystal Ball: BJT not dissolved. MFP dissolved.

Is this not the the same as the Move Forward party treatment?

Doesn't matter which political party we're talking about, the principle is the same.

The 'idea' seems to be that the Leader somehow incarnates the Party, so if the former is naughty or bad the latter must be too. This is not a concept that would float 10 seconds in a proper democracy.

Yes, it is, and it is the same as all the other parties that the military has disbanded.

The interesting thing is that if they disband the BJT, the coalition will be very weak.  They would only have 220 seats in the house.  It would also remove Anutin from his power place and give the Dem party a reason to move back to being against Thaksin.

IF the MFP can time it right the day that they announce the dissolution, they can move to raise a non-confidence vote.

If I recall after the last election, Bhumjaithai picked up by far the largest number of complaints of irregularities, around 70 MPs were suspected of wrong doings,  if my memory serves me well.

Since then, nothing!

No yellow or red cards from the EC at all.

Nothing to do with Bhumjaithai joining the government of course.

It worked against the FFP and MFP so why not keep  a level playing field and use the same tactics against Anutin and the Bhumjaithai party....

unless of course the constitutional court shows double standards as does the EC

Correct, "proper democracy"

Buriram mafia are now going to feel the wrath of Thaksin's revenge for stabbing him in the back in 2008.
