A group of 98 senators has submitted a motion to hold a government debate  on issues such as the digital wallet scheme and alleged preferential treatment of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra. They are calling for a two-day debate, specifically focusing on the 10,000-baht payout promised by the digital wallet scheme for all Thais aged 16 and above, aiming to assess potential financial implications and address concerns about political influence.

 

Students and the People's Network for Thailand Reform plan to intensify their protest against perceived preferential treatment given to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawat. They will camp outside Government House from Feb 2nd indefinitely.. Thaksin remains at the Police Hospital despite passing a 120-day inpatient care limit, The group will submit a 20,000 signature petition  to the Supreme Court president, urging an investigation into the National Anti-Corruption Commission's handling of the case.

Thaksin will become eligible for parole on Feb 22nd.

 

Thai police have sought India's assistance in arresting and extraditing two Indian suspects involved in the murder of a Myanmar job seeker. The victim's dismembered body was found hidden in a freezer in Bangkok on Sunday. One of the suspects, who operated a job placement company, left for Chennai on Saturday. 

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the deputy chairperson of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, is advocating for Muay Thai to be included as an Olympic sport. Along with her team, she aims to enhance the global appeal of Muay Thai by implementing initiatives such as introducing a ranking system, similar to Taekwondo's belt ranking system, to attract more international interest.
