A CRACKDOWN on shops illegally selling balloons filled with laughing gas, that is nitrous oxide, in Khao San road area today (Feb. 2) netted 13 suspects and six equipment used to produce them for sale worth around 1 million baht, TV Channel 7 said this evening.

A Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) police team together with another team from Chanasongkram police station and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials jointly arrested the suspects at 12 shops scattered around Khao San road for selling these balloons.

They were charged with manufacturing and selling drugs without permission which is punishable with maximum five years’ imprisonment and a fine not exceeding 10,000 baht. Should they have used unregistered nitrous oxide there is an additional penalty of maximum three years in jail and/or 5,000 baht fine at most.

Loss of equipment, a small fine and back out on the streets.

Who needs laughing gas when we have AN. :coffee1:

Authority: "This is no laughing matter!"

Public: "But, that's exactly what it is. A matter that makes people laugh."

Authority: "I get back to you..."

These are very popular in Vietnam

I think most people don't realise you can lose the ability to walk from doing to much of these.

Must have been difficulty to find some of the sellers.  I mean it's not like their stands were set up 100 meters from a major police station.

What a laugh !

Meanwhile, the sixteen cannabis cafes on the street were doing a roaring trade, lol.

There are many biblical references to the use of nitrous oxide.

Book of Stones, Cpt 3, verse 9:

"Jumping Jack Flash it's a gas gas gas"

Gospel according to Floyd

Book 2; cpt 1, verse 4:

"Money it's a gas"

The signs in English are a cunning deception😄

And just because all the western backpackers look so grumpy.

well that's a gas.

LOLNever tried it but have friends that did...and they loved it. Sounds like jolly good fun. Wished I'd known, as was in BKK recently.

🤣😆🤣

:cheesy: :cheesy:

Of all the laws being broken everyday this is the one they acted on? That stuff is basically harmless but going 100 in a school zone doesn't raise an eye.

Thailand has 99 problems and selling nitrous oxide to backpackers on Khao San Rd ain't one.

Blatantly sold from a bar in the Loi Kroh area of Chiang Mai and customers come from other bars to buy the balloons and take back to their waterhole.

I tried it once, just gave me a headache. A friend of mine who works at the bar who sells them has at least 4 large balloons everynight costing 100 baht each. Some nights more drunk on the balloons. Combined with alcohol not good. But she did learn lesson the other night. Caught riding motorbike drunk. Cost her several hours in a cell, a trip to the courts and 9500 fines.
