Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health is set to introduce strategies designed to encourage artificial insemination and support those who wish to become parents, encompassing the LGBTQ community as well. The drive is part of an initiative to increase the country’s birth rate.

 

During a meeting with Jos Vandelaer, Thailand’s World Health Organisation representative, at Nakhonping Hospital, the Minister, Cholnan Srikaew, disclosed that the Department of Health (DoH) has been tasked with developing measures to enhance access to infertility treatments and preconception counselling. The DoH is to explore ways of optimising the provision of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) services for those who require them.

 

Cholnan also highlighted that a change in the law to permit single women and the LGBTQ community to access infertility treatment is being considered. He predicted that the amendment could be proposed as early as March, reported Bangkok Post.

That's all fine and dandy but it seems like the majority of families are consciously not having babies because the cost of raising a child had become prohibitive...

The government can't quite seem to get their heads together and realise this is the real issue.

If they were serious they would have to ban masturbation & contraceptives of all kinds.

 

I guess they couldn't bring themselves to do that (and they would fail in any case), so the Thai population will continue downwards, just like most other countries everywhere in the world that have actually entered the C21st. And even Black Africa's birth rates are steadily falling, though not yet in negative territory.

Two teenagers and a six pack should do it. Decreasing birthrates are worldwide, kids are expensive, especially in the west where both parents have to work but child minding costs are prohibitive, the mother would be working just to pay for child care...pointless. Things are only going to get worse with a worldwide synchronized recession coming combined with bank failures, unemployment and dauer inflation, on top of that with the rising of BRICS dedollarisation will cause chaos in the FX market, we live in interesting times.

Sorry,  the younger males I see here seem very affeminate.  Kind of a general Asian theme now. And, being on IG, Tik toks, or whatever is their life. Being friends seems to be more the norm. Having relationships with sex or planning families not priorities.

Young people nowadays have just enough money, to live a bit better life than their parents did, if they are a couple and both working without having kids. That is the entire reason they don't want kids as much anymore too, it is financially impossible, it basically means you have to get a baby + then ship it off to the grandparents.

Low birthrate seems to be common with middle class societies. Asian people now have entered their consumerist, materialistic, individualistic, hedonistic era. You hardly want to sacrifice when your main thoughts are: buy car, career, travel.

 

The only hope are the underprivileged classes, who are accustomed to sacrifice, but are unable to support their children because of the enormous increase in the cost of living, education and health care.

 

A government that really wanted to reverse course should help people economically by providing an income from birth to the child (expendable only for food, education, health care).

They might start not living on mortgages, new cars, credit cards, iPhones, Japan trips, gifts, Shopee and dinners in the malls, as their parents did.

 

I think they want to swim in the new narrative of the rich asian and find any justification for give up nothing.
