Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin after Tuesday’s cabinet meeting at Government House where the green light was given to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to introduce new legislation in parliament dealing with gender identity.

PM orders Gender recognition law. LGBTQ rights advancing rapidly in Thailand. The first Southeast Asian nation to legalise same-sex marriage expected alongside recognition of alternative genders as a matter of human rights. The moves should not come as a surprise as Srettha Thavisin, even before entering politics, was seen as an ardent proponent of LGBTQ inclusivity.

On Tuesday, at cabinet, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin ordered new laws to be expedited to fully recognise all genders in Thailand. The move will be a significant step forward for LGBTQ rights in the kingdom. It comes as same-sex marriage legislation is currently making its way through parliament. The law is likely to be passed making Thailand the first country in Southeast Asia to do so. The promotion of LGBTQ rights is seen as a key priority for the PM.

In a bid to promote inclusivity and equality, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has directed the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to expedite the process of introducing gender recognition legislation to parliament.

 

The order by the PM came during the weekly Cabinet meeting on February 20, 2024. Afterwards, Prime Minister Srettha emphasised the importance of upholding equality and respecting diverse gender identities.

This man has his priorities all out of whack, i can think of dozens other much more important issues to take

care off concerning most Thai people but he pushes for LGBTQ rights to 'advance rapidly'...

I think he is determined to prove himself worse PM than his predecessor - as hard as that task might be. Almost every plan he pushes is populist and bad for the country.

Thai citizens are  of the LGBTQ persuasion that you're calling them 'significant part"?

 

For all we know maybe he's or others close to him are somehow connected to the LGBTQ comunity that

he's pushing so hard to legalise now...

Why is helping millions of people bad? Only bigots are against gay marriage. Mostly because their marriages failed.

Millions? Just how many gay people do you think exist in Thailand?? and out of them what percentage would actually consider marriage AND have a partner who would too? I have no problem with gay marriage, but I don't think it's an urgent immediate national priority. I don't know if that's part of the law, but talking about "recognizing all genders" is worrisome because we know how crazy that turned out in the west. Thailand ladyboys are at least sane - they know they are men - no illusions like the psycho ones in the states who look like a man in a dress, insist you address them as "ma'am", and will attack you like a man if challenged about it.

Should only take 1 day to change the marriage laws. 

I'm not sure he'll get as far as he'd like. Thailand is still super ultra-conservative.

 

The Senate will probably not approve much beyond the Democratic Party's position: 

 

The Democrats are pledging to make it easier for the LGBTQ+ community to hold Pride festivals and other events in public spaces. They are also pledging to work to prevent all types of sexual harassment and bullying, and ensure that all genders will have equal rights.

 

The party will also encourage media outlets to report on the community without bias.

 

 

MoveForward was by far the most progressive on this issue.

 

PTP less so.  Pheu Thai also supports marriage equality. It says it will promote Thailand as a global destination for LGBTQ+ tourists to stimulate tourism. It will also draft a guidebook and create an online platform to promote the rights of LGBTQ+ people.

Using your daft "logic" Thailand or indeed any other country should NEVER address this.

Maybe in your world view (as there are always current higher priorities) perhaps this should be discussed in a committee 500 years from now.

LGBT lobby has nothing to do with gay rights movements of the past. Their goal is not defend gay people rights. Their main goal is dissolve traditional social structure, especially the family.

 

The LGBT lobby is mainly harmful to gay people themselves, in fact so many opponents of this lobby are gay themselves (hard to believe, isn't it?).

 

However, the difference between LGBT lobby and gay movements of the past has been explained well, over two decades, by Thierry Meyssan (homosexual). But I think the Propaganda Machine made you  consider him as a "conspiracy theorist".

If non straight people having equal rights is somehow destructive to family values I'll go hopping to hell. Put the bigotry back in the closet.

 

And I'll say this: Ain't nobody straighter than me. Married three times and more kids than I can remember birthdays for.
