On February 22nd, 2024, Pha Mueang military patrol squads launched an inspection on the Thai-Myanmar border, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, after a late-night confrontation with a drug smuggling caravan.

According to patrol officers, at 9:55 PM, on February 21st, 2024, Pha Mueang military patrol squads performed their duty on the Thai-Myanmar border to deter and intercept drug smuggling. On the Ruak Riverside, the borderline, the patrol squads detected a group of 15 to 20 suspicious people carrying unidentified rucksacks.

The patrol officers then asked them for an inspection, however, the group panicked and fired their firearms at the officers while fleeing away. After the 5-minute confrontation, the situation was calm, no officer was injured, according to the patrol officers.
