Gaetz subpoenaed by woman he allegedly had sex with when she was a minor in defamation suit

The latest development in the legal saga surrounding Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz involves him being served a subpoena to sit for a deposition in a civil lawsuit. This lawsuit involves allegations that he had sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl, as part of a suit brought by a friend of Gaetz against the young woman and others.

The congressman's deposition is scheduled for April 5 and is part of a broader defamation and racketeering lawsuit brought by Gaetz's longtime friend, former Florida House member and lobbyist Chris Dorworth, against the woman and others.

Gaetz's spokesperson clarified that he is not being sued and is neither a plaintiff nor a defendant in this matter.

The lawsuit alleges a complicated effort to falsely accuse Dorworth and Gaetz of various illegal activities, including child sex trafficking and sex with a minor.

Although Gaetz is not a party in the civil suit, the lawsuit mentions him by name and the allegations against him numerous times.

Joel Greenberg, a one-time associate of Gaetz who pleaded guilty to several charges including sex trafficking a minor, is a central figure in the lawsuit.

The Justice Department declined to bring charges against Gaetz in 2023, and he has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing, including the allegations involving a minor.

Gaetz is also facing a congressional ethics probe into various allegations stemming from the Justice Department investigation.

In a previous interview with Fox News, Gaetz denied the allegations, claiming that the person in question does not exist and that he has not had a relationship with a 17-year-old.

This is going to be goood. Gaetz gets to deny he had sex with an under aged woman while under oath. Bye Matt. He could plead the fifth but in a civil suit it amounts to a guilty plea.

Apparently he’s big on Christian teachings, family values, morality and of course law and order.

Pity the headline implies wrong doing on Gaetz's part then.

The latest court filing in Florida certainly does.
