The fallout from Planet Fitness' controversial decision to ban a member who shared a photo of a transgender individual in a female locker room has been swift and significant. In just five days, the company's valuation plummeted by $400 million, dropping from $5.3 billion to $4.9 billion. This sharp decline reflects the mounting backlash against Planet Fitness' handling of the situation and underscores the complex and contentious issues surrounding gender identity and discrimination in society today.

The incident began when Patricia Silva, a member of Planet Fitness in Alaska, encountered a transgender woman in the female locker room. Silva, who described the individual as "a man with a penis," expressed discomfort with the presence of the transgender woman in the women's facilities. She proceeded to take a photo of the individual and shared her experience online, sparking a firestorm of controversy.

Planet Fitness responded by revoking Silva's membership and filing a police report against her for violating the gym's policy on taking photos or videos in the locker room. The company stood by its commitment to creating an inclusive and safe environment for all members, including transgender individuals, and reiterated its policy allowing members to use facilities that align with their self-reported gender identity.

However, the decision to ban Silva and enforce its policy regarding the use of locker room facilities has drawn criticism from both members and the public. Some argue that transgender rights should not supersede women's rights, while others see the incident as an infringement on free speech and constitutional rights.

Utah Congressman Phil Lyman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk weighed in on the controversy, with Lyman expressing concern about transgender rights overshadowing women's rights and Musk offering a wry response to Silva's videos.

In response to the backlash, some members have taken action by canceling their memberships and calling for a boycott of Planet Fitness. They argue that the company's actions are unacceptable and that individuals should have the right to express their discomfort without facing repercussions.

The incident at Planet Fitness highlights the ongoing debate surrounding gender identity, discrimination, and individual rights. As society grapples with these complex issues, it remains to be seen how businesses and institutions will navigate the delicate balance between inclusivity and the protection of individual rights and freedoms.

IMO a good outcome. Being woke should carry a penalty.

Rubbish. If a person has a penis, regardless of silicone enhancements in other parts of the body, they have no right to be in a female only changing room. PERIOD.

Did you see the photo of the "transgender woman"?  It's literally a bloke having a shave.   He is just your everyday perv that has been given permission to legally perv on women and if anyone complains he holds up the transgender card and the actual women get punished for being transphobic.

I thought that was a man, not the transgender. He doesn't even try to look like a female with his mancut.

Waiting to hear from the forums lbtgxyz$&@“ apologist.

Can’t wait to hear their rationale.

I don’t think they’ll be able to justify this one but we’re all ears.

Some of these <deleted> actually say they are experiencing period pains, and want tampons as well, they want putting in an asylum.

$400 million, that’s a big hit.

Somebody in the businesses management team needs to explain if it would have been cheaper to have provided transgender changing facilities for their transgender patrons.

However, being asleep while in charge of a business isn’t, to my knowledge, a criminal offense; on the other-hand taking photos of other people in a changing room without their permission and then distributing those photos surely is on the wrong side of legality.

But don’t panic… don’t panic!

It’s an easy fix: provide changing facilities to meet patron needs and prosecute people who take and distribute photos of other people in changing rooms without first obtaining the explicit permission of the subject to do so.

……

Carry on with the spleen venting.
