A latest report has highlighted Bangkok and Chiang Mai as two of the top 10 Asian cities for expats in 2024. The findings reinforce the appeal of Thailand to a global populace.

Among all the cities assessed, Bangkok, known for its stunning temples and lively street food culture, ranked second. One of its key attractions is the rapidly declining cost of living. From 2022 to 2024, living costs in Bangkok dramatically dropped by over 50%, from US$2,715 to a reasonable US$1,048 per month.

Chiang Mai, ranked fifth in the study, is celebrated for its tranquil temples, lush mountains, and a thriving community of digital nomads. The city offers an affordable lifestyle, with the cost of living estimated at US$665 per month, making it highly attractive to expats.

Last year, Bangkok hosted 22.78 million foreign visitors. Typically, these tourists spent about 4.7 nights in the city and an average of 5,938 baht (US$173) daily. With these figures, both Bangkok and Chiang Mai seem set to remain favourite havens for expats.

Anyone beleive this? Must be a mistake surely? Streetfood prices up, western food prices up. Rents are certainly not down by over 50%.

Who is this "latest report" from? I guess they're not counting expats who breathe the air.

minus the months and months you can't see the mountains due to the horrendous air pollution.

Interesting isn't it how if we post anything that needs sourcing without sourcing said post it's immidiately deleted but this unsourced rubbish is ok. This is pure nonsense based in no way in reality and completely unsourced. It's nothing but a waste of space.

This AI article must be talking about a different Bangkok and Thailand to the one we know.

Not forgetting the ever increasing PM2.5, then maybe health considerations aren't a factor in this absolute nonsense rating.

What a load of codswallop.

Bangkok known for it´s street food and temples? What? Bangkok is know for Nana Entertainment Plaza, Soi Cowboy, prostitution and soapy massage as well as a waterhole for all thirsty foreigners and other power drinkers.

After that, how in the world can two cities that mostly have such pollution that people need to walk around in masks be in top 10 choices for the worlds expat community?

Oh dear! Who have come up with this?

Dear AseanNow - this article appears to be under your name and ownership.

Got any evidence/references for this claim ? By the way, it's a 61% cost of living reduction based on your figures.

Below is a Thailand inflation chart to get your critical thinking juices flowing. Your credibility is at stake...and I do hope this is not a sign of the quality we should expect going forward after the recent business restructuring.

Known as such only to sex tourists and resident degenerates. For the young visitor it's KSR street food muck, terminal 21 and the ever fascinating 7/11 😄

It depends on why you went to Thailand , people who don't come for sex would not know of Nana plaza or Soi Cowboy .

The sex tourists have their side of BKK , whereas all the other non sex tourists have their own side of BKK .

Just the mongers know all about the prostitution side on BKK

It’s a bogus article quickly disproved by reality.

Pure Poppycock!!!

Classic timing in the wake of record breaking heatwaves and smoke/pollution 😊

I have never heard of them but the source of the article is

Preply, an online language-learning marketplace, has released its rankings on the top ten cities for expats moving to Asia in 2024. Two cities in Thailand, including Bangkok and Chiang Mai, were recognized among them.

Are you really that unaware? That´s sad.

No, it´s known by everyone who visits Thailand. Some go there for sex other for just a beer and looking. However, you are right about the 7/11. 😂

If high air pollution results in a high ranking "among Top Asian Cities for Expats", city governments in Thailand should make more effort to increase pollution.

(I was going to say they should make less effort to reduce pollution, but I have not seen any effort in that direction)

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
