Russian Man's Body Found in Bangkok Canal with Multiple Wrist Injuries

A Russian man's body was discovered in Bangkok's Hua Lamphong Canal yesterday, showing over ten cuts on his wrists. The man, identified as 40-year-old Asonov Konstantin, was found by local residents around 8 am, according to Bangrak Police Station officers.

Konstantin, shirtless and wearing dark blue shorts, was found hanging from the canal's fence, tethered by a shoelace. Authorities identified him through a passport found in his trouser pocket. A broken glass bottle, with blood, was found near the scene, leading officers to estimate that Konstantin died one to two days before being found.

Local residents said Konstantin appeared to be homeless, often seen sleeping on a nearby pavement and close to a local shrine. Many observed him talking to himself, hinting at possible mental health issues.

While preliminary investigation suggests that Konstantin may have committed suicide, Thai authorities are keeping all options open and will carry out an in-depth probe into his death. His body has been moved to the Police General Hospital for an autopsy. The police are also working to reach out to his family for further arrangements.

I would expect to see a lot more of this in the future, some investigations have revealed that there are over 5,000 organized criminal gangs operating within Russia, and they also operate within 50 different countries. Thailand is inviting them in freely, and does not have a clue about screening career criminals, it would appear.

So, it's only a matter of time before there are more Russian Bratva here, with alot of related violence, and more Vors running around creating problems for many.

Very strange and sad 🙏

I didn't see anything relating to Russian bratva, but anything is possible.

My initial thoughts is suicide but then it can be made to look that way.

I just read that the most powerful underworld boss is a Jewish Ukraine born Russian by the name of Semion Yudkovich Mogilevich.  I doubt that you'd want to upset him

Someone went to a lot of trouble. It would have been easier to jump/push in the khlong for just as quick expiry.

They are countless. Just a start.

This one is outdated, but useful.

Bratva. Red Mafia. Vory v zakone. Going by many names and possessing a criminal resume that includes just about every illegal activity in existence, Russian organized crime (ROC) is composed of several transnational criminal organizations operating worldwide. Contrary to popular belief, the Red Mafia is not one cohesive organization, but rather an umbrella term for a loose network of autonomous criminal groups. What these disparate groups share, besides their Soviet roots, is a passion for any and every remotely profitable criminal activity. ROC is, if nothing else, resourceful, having a hand in everything from human trafficking to fraud. Unlike other international criminals groups—such as La Cosa Nostra (which specializes in protection extortion) or the Mexican cartels (drug trafficking)—ROC is involved in almost every criminal activity. Name a crime, and the ROC circuit is bound to have it in its extensive repertoire: money laundering, kidnapping, prostitution, fraud, drug trafficking, human trafficking, weapons smuggling, extortion, auto theft, counterfeiting and, of course, murder.

In Russia, a country already suffering from political and economic disaster, it is reported that an estimated 80 percent of the private enterprises and commercial banks are forced to pay a tribute of 10 to 25 percent of their profits to organized crime. They use the banks to launder money and avoid paying taxes desperately needed by the government to pay salaries and debts. All too often we hear of government and military personnel in Russia not being paid for months. To further cripple the economy, these crime groups dominate economic sectors, such as petroleum distribution, pharmaceuticals and consumer products distribution. According to Interior Minister Anatoly Kulikov, ROC controls 40% of Russia's gross national product. As long as money is not being paid into the government, money will not be paid out to workers in the form of salary and pension entitlements.

Seems he tried cutting his wrist and then decided on hanging himself with his shoelaces. Where there is a will there is always a way. Neither the first nor the last foreigner to commit suicide in Thailand. RIP.

One less nuisance. Sorry!

Yep. few years ago there was a case of another russian hanged himself at Rama VI bridge, but was too heavy so he decapitated himself. Police found "sorry Natasha!" note in his pocket.

About decade ago there were 2 similar suicides - unlucky ones thought both can turn into Spider-man and jumped from high rise condo. One into the pool another one hit parking. Same year and quite close sukhumvit area of Bangkok.

However ...

These deaths are always suspicious

The window was jammed in the hotel, couldn’t do the Pattaya plunge

Meaning self  harm  or being assisted

Maybe Putin sent him enlistment papers for Ukraine front line.

Pretty Sad, Karma in with all the Russia free visa and more Russian gangs coming in-There will be more incidents.

Suicide.  Especially since he was homeless and mentally ill (from reports).

Not every Russian's demise is at the hands of organized crime...and if Russian mobsters did kill someone, they'd do it in a spectacular manner to warn others.

Whatever the reason for death or the man's background, I'm suprised that the Thai authorities consider it  OK to name him before they've contacted his family.
