A disturbing discovery unfolded in Chon Buri as authorities stumbled upon a human body encased in concrete inside a 200-liter barrel at the Map Prachan reservoir in Bang Laung district.

The remains are believed to belong to a 34-year-old Korean man who had been reported missing earlier.

Roh Eui Jong went missing on May 3, prompting an extensive search effort. The situation took a grim turn when investigators found that all of the victim's fingers had been severed, likely in an attempt to hinder identification.

Concerns escalated when Roh's mother, residing in South Korea, received a troubling call from her son's LINE number. The caller, who remains unidentified, demanded a ransom of 3 million baht (about US$82,000) and threatened harm if the payment was not made by May 8. The ransom was purportedly to cover the costs of drugs allegedly disposed of by Roh in a river.

In response to the alarming situation, the South Korean embassy in Bangkok intervened, prompting collaboration between the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Chon Buri police.

Based on the trace of the call, Roh's movements, and CCTV footage analysis, detectives narrowed their focus to the Bang Lamung area.

The probe led them to a rented house where the suspects were seen on camera, later transiting to a white pickup truck. Subsequently, they were caught on video purchasing a barrel and other supplies from a nearby shop.

Nittaya Chanprung, the shop owner, recalled a foreigner buying a large plastic barrel, ropes, and scissors on May 3 without raising any red flags. The security footage from the store was obtained by investigators to aid in the case.

Deputy Police Commander, Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, of the Metropolitan Police Bureau said today.

“In the case of a young Korean man, Mr. Roh Eun Jong, 34 years old, who was murdered and his body stuffed into a 200 litre bucket, which was then weighed down with cement at Map Prachan Reservoir, Village No. 3, Nong Prue Subdistrict.

Through coordination with the Korean police and relatives, we have now obtained DNA from his sister and relatives. We also obtained the father's DNA from the Korean police data base, so we can verify more accurately. All DNA was sent to forensic investigators for comparison.

As for the body, while being examined, DNA will be collected from the ribs and compared with the father's DNA in order to issue arrest warrants for the 3 culprits.

However, Korean police have now issued red notices for the 3 suspects, of which one has been recently detained, Lee Roun.”

Suspect Arrested in South Korea in Connection With Pattaya Tourist Murder Case

main-4-3.png

In a major breakthrough, South Korean police have captured a man believed to be involved in the murder of a South Korean tourist in Thailand's Pattaya. The suspect was arrested on Sunday, according to Yonhap news agency.

The suspect was cornered at his residence by the officers from Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency under what has been called an 'emergency arrest'. The police has been hunting for the man, who forms one-third of a trio of South Korean nationals suspected of the heinous crime.

The unfortunate victim journeyed to Thailand only to go missing, triggering an extensive search operation. The tale took a grim turn when Thai police unearthed the man's body on May 11. Concealed in a chilling scene, his remains were found stashed in a black plastic container, chillingly filled with cement, discarded in a Pattaya reservoir.

This horrifying discovery came after the victim's mother received a sinister message from an unidentified source. The unknown contact threatened the life of the woman's son, demanding a ransom failing which, they insisted, her son's life would be in peril.

Reports confirm a single suspect had taken flight back to South Korea from Thailand. Meanwhile, the co-suspects of the heinous crime remain at large.

Whilst an arrest has been made, police are withholding specific details of the ongoing investigation. As this dreadful case unravels, the implications of it continue to reverberate in both Thailand and South Korea, leaving many to quest for justice for the hapless victim.

Yep.

Don't drink the tap water.

The stuff coming out of the drinking water dispenser in Big-CX a few weeks ago (when the AC failed) was a disgusting brown colour a few weeks back.

For big cases like this sensational murder case, the local Plod are able to track suspects using CCTV for many miles.  For all the other murders on the roads daily, there is total inactivity.

Why send back to Korea? The murder was committed in Thailand.

Sorry, but just reporting what the police commander reported.

I would image that there is some top level agreement of how the case is dealt with, including any extraditions. I have also seen reported that this was a possible gang killing, with the victim having stolen from the gang and ran off to Thailand, with the 3 suspects sent to reclaim what was stolen or deal with the problem.

Third Suspect Arrested in South Korean Murder Mystery Linked to Thailand

download-1-1.jpg

British nationals are advised to remain cautious following a significant development in a cross-continental murder investigation. Cambodian authorities have arrested a third suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a South Korean national, whose remains were discovered in a plastic barrel in Thailand. This multinational investigation stretches from Thailand to Cambodia and South Korea.

The victim, Roh Eui Jong, a South Korean man was reported missing earlier this month. His sister identified his remains, found in the Map Prachan Reservoir in the Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri. DNA comparison has since confirmed the identification.

The investigation has been kept under wraps by the Thai police, with officials waiting for documents from the Institute of Forensic Medicine before proceeding with arrest warrants for pre-mediated murder, illegal detention, and concealing a dead body with the intention to cover a crime.

The Cambodian police arrested the most recent suspect in Phnom Penh on Monday. Preparations are now underway to extradite the suspect to South Korea to face charges. Deputy Commissioner Pol Maj-Gen Noppasilp Poonsawat of the Metropolitan Police shared these details during an announcement earlier today.

Currently, each of the three suspects is in custody in different nations: Thailand, Cambodia, and South Korea. The international nature of this crime has yielded a gripping mystery, laced with intrigue and horror that has captivated the public's attention across continents.

As the details of this complex, multinational investigation continue to unfold, the British community in Southeast Asia is recommended to remain vigilant and keep abreast with the latest updates reputed local and international news outlets. Urging our readers to extend their sympathies to the victim's family, we also sincerely hope for justice to be served in this complicated case.

Yeah, this was pretty clearly a murder carried out for some very particular reason - whether financial or personal - and not part of some general crime wave that should send everyone into a panic.

Seems that the police are now reporting that the third suspect Kim Yong Kwon, has not been arrested in Thailand, as in the earlier report, but is still on the run, other news reports suggest he crossed the border into Myanmar.

The other suspecrs, Lee Roh Oun is currently being held in South Korea, while Lee Yong Jin is in custody in Cambodia, with the report below saying Thai police are seeking ‘red notices’ for them.

UPDATE: Suspect Reportedly Admits to Killing Victim in South Korean Murder Case in Pattaya

S__248471645-1024x768.jpg

South Korean officials have reported that one of the two suspects held in connection to the murder of a South Korean citizen, Eui Jong Roh, 34, has confessed. The suspect declared that he and his accomplices captured Mr. Roh after sedating him at a nightclub in Bangkok's RCA area, with a plan to later rob him.

The suspects drove the unconscious victim to a Romklao house and were headed to Pattaya when Mr. Roh woke up and tried to resist them. The unsuspecting victim was then brutally assaulted and ultimately strangled to death, the suspects confessed.

Mr. Roh's lifeless body was then moved to a house close to Pattaya. Here, the suspects put it in a plastic barrel filled with concrete and dumped it in Mabprachan Reservoir. There are allegations that they also attempted to obtain ransom from the victim's family member.

Thai police have since impounded the car involved in the crime and are examining it for further evidence. They are still on the lookout for another suspect, Kim Hyung Kwan, who is believed to have escaped to neighboring countries. Yet another South Korean suspect, already behind bars, denies being involved in the crime.

It seems that the Thai wife of the victim has told police that she spoke to the murderer after he had killed her husband and he admitted to strangling him.

The claimed murderer is 35-year-old Kim Hyeong Won, who is still on the run and is reported to have illegally crossed into Myanmar after dumping the body.
