Underground Adult entertainment bar exposed: 24 Thai women arrested

Taipei law enforcement swooped on an illicit underground bar in the Zhongshan District in Taipei, Taiwan, uncovering a web of illegal activities and arresting 24 Thai women suspected of working as hostesses.

 

The raid, conducted on Saturday, May 18, resulted in the arrest of the 29 year old bar owner, identified only as Chiang, along with four of his employees and 17 customers. The Taipei Police Precinct revealed the details in a statement on Sunday, shedding light on the clandestine operation.

 

The Thai women were fined an undisclosed amount under the Social Order Maintenance Act and were swiftly handed over to a National Immigration Agency (NIA) special brigade for repatriation to Thailand. Meanwhile, Chiang and his employees face further investigation by the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office. The customers were questioned and released.

 

The Zhongshan Police Precinct launched the investigation following a tip-off about a sex bar operating in the basement of a building on Minsheng E Road. A specialised task force was formed to gather evidence, which revealed that Chiang had recruited Thai women on short-term visitor visas to work as hostesses. These women were expected to drink with and engage intimately with patrons, who tipped them with wristbands that could be converted into cash.

 

On Saturday morning, the task force, along with the NIA brigade, raided the premises, apprehending all suspects and confiscating over NT$410,000 (approximately 460,000 baht) in revenue, an accounting book, wireless electronic devices, and remote access controls, reported Taipei Times.

 

Additionally, they seized a marijuana cartridge, a ketamine cigarette, and other incriminating evidence from the employees.

These 'social workers' are a highly successful source of foreign currency and can be found in countless towns and cities throughout the world, sacrificing their time - and other things - to send money home to help support the family buffalo and brothers who are unable to work due to an excessive thirst for Lao Khao.

Any relatively wealthy country (e.g. Taiwan) will have women from the nearest poorest countries working in these bars. The big hubs in Asia have Thai and PI ladies. 

In Europe the working girls are mostly from Eastern Europe, e.g. Bulgaria, Latvia. 

 

It's just the way it is. The girls need the money, the men want s3x.

 

I don't think the girls are concerned about how it embarrasses Dave from Dartford.

I think many would be surprised at just how many Thai women are involved in 'the trade' in one way or another.  Of course the great majority of Thai women will not be involved at all but there are far more that are than many think.

 

The parts of 'the trade' that are aimed at Thai men are many and varied - some is out in the open just as the market for foreigners is but there is also a 'hidden market'. From private 'Gentlemen's Clubs' to Golf Clubs that literally have a '19th Hole' - students that have 'Sponsors' to 'Massages' that operate in a building signed as being concerned with a totally different business.

 

Many years ago a Thai mate discovered, quite by accident, that his girlfriend had a regular 'lunchtime arrangment' with a local businessman. She had a fairly basic job and I always wondered how she could afford a new car that I was told, wasn't on finance. Her clothes didn't come from Chatuchak either.

 

I've been approached by students looking for a 'sponsor' - I didn't go for it (honestly).

 

On a recent holiday on Koh Kood, I was in a coffee shop at a very expensive hotel (I wasn't staying there 😀) where 4 of the other customers were 2 overweight Thai men in their 50's with 2 absolutely stunning 'model' types, draped in gold and carrying Gucci handbags. The men sat at the bar whilst the girls sat at the table next to ours. My girfriend told me that she could tell from their conversation that they were neither wives, girlfriends, or mia noi's of the Thai guys. When I asked what they were then, she just said "you know". I know better than to ask more.

 

There's a lot that goes on 'behind the scenes' but I wouldn't say its necessarily a Thai thing - attitudes are different across Asia. It even goes on in Muslim countries but its buried deeper there.

 

So yes, there's a 'stereotype' - is it justified? I think it is but it depends on your point of view as to whether its wrong or not.

Must admit to some sympathy that girls need to do this work due to low education and no social safety net. I realize the temptation of earning more than a receptionist or secretary is an incentive, but I put it down to the need to survive.

I think you might be surprised that one of the biggest lures is when and already working girl arrives back in the village to visit her family - complete with new iphone, Gucci bag etc.

the police were quick to identify the workers as thai as they spotted tiny bottles of baby mild scattered about

 

also the smell of fermented crab......they could not determine if it was from somtam or just a busy day at the establishment

 

also when checking the phones they noticed TF and line apps with grumpy grandpa sponsors aka teeraks...joop joop
