Severe weather warning for 34 provinces with heavy rainfall

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning for severe weather conditions impacting 34 provinces today. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue, with the northern region experiencing particularly significant precipitation, covering 70% of the area. Flash floods and forest runoffs are anticipated.

 

The 24-hour weather forecast, starting from 6am today until 6am tomorrow, indicates that a moderate monsoon trough is stretching across the upper northern region and northern Laos, moving towards a low-pressure area along the coast of northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin. Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon is prevailing over the upper Andaman Sea and upper Thailand.

 

This weather pattern is resulting in heavy rain in some parts of the northern and upper northeastern regions. Areas in the southern region will also see scattered thunderstorms. Residents in these regions are advised to be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which could lead to sudden flash floods and forest runoffs, particularly in foothill areas and regions near waterways.

 

The Andaman Sea’s upper part will experience moderate winds, with waves reaching heights of 1 to 2 metres and more than 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

In the northern region, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in some places, particularly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, and Tak. The temperature will range from a minimum of 24°C to 26°C to a maximum of 32°C to 36°C. Southwest winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

 

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, with some heavy rain expected in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom. Temperatures will range between 23°C and 27°C for the minimum and 32°C to 38°C for the maximum. Southwest winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the central region, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area, mostly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon. The temperature will range from 24°C to 27°C to 35°C to 37°C. Southwest winds will be blowing at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.

 

In the eastern region, thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, mainly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 25°C to 29°C to 33°C to 36°C. The southwest wind will be blowing at speeds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, rising to more than 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.

 

In the southern region (east coast), thunderstorms are expected in 20% of the area, particularly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Songkhla, Yala, and Narathiwat. The temperature will range from 23°C to 27°C to 35°C to 37°C.

 

Southwest winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, rising to more than 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.

 

In the southern region (west coast), thunderstorms will cover 20% of the area, particularly in Krabi, Trang, and Satun.

 

Temperatures will range from 25°C to 27°C to 33°C to 36°C. From Phang Nga upwards, southwest winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour, with waves reaching heights of 1 to 2 metres and more than 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.

 

From Phuket downwards, southwest winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30 kilometres per hour, with waves about 1 metre high, rising to more than 1 metre in thunderstorm areas, reported KhaoSod.

 

Bangkok and Vicinity: Thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area. The temperature will range from 26°C to 28°C to 33°C to 36°C. Southwest winds will be blowing at 10 to 25 kilometres per hour.
